Colts rookie WR Michael Pittman on injury: Felt like leg ‘was going to explode’
Colts medical staff told Pittman to be prepared for the possibility of compartment leg syndrome

Resumes practicing in full
Pittman was a full participant in Friday's practice.
Impact
Pittman sat out Thursday's walk-through practice after being deemed to have been in close contact with a team staff member who tested positive for COVID-19. The wideout's return to practice a day later suggests his absence Thursday was merely cautionary, so he'll be on track to play Sunday against the Ravens.

Pittman was one of several Colts players who missed practice Thursday because they were in proximity to the team staff member who tested positive for COVID-19, Stephen Holder of Th...
Impact
Per Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star, the other Indy players in the same situation are Sheldon Day, Tyquan Lewis and Quenton Nelson. All four players can return to practice Friday if they test negative for COVID-19.

One catch in return
Pittman (lower leg) caught his lone target for six yards in Sunday's 41-21 win over the Lions.
Impact
Pittman played 45 offensive snaps in his first action since Week 3 but simply didn't get much attention from quarterback Philip Rivers. The rookie second-round pick will hope to get open more frequently against the Ravens in Week 9, but doing so won't be easy against the stingy Baltimore secondary.

Activated from IR
Pittman (lower leg) was activated from injured reserve Saturday, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Pittman underwent surgery to address a lower leg injury he suffered in Week 3. He returned to practice this week, but it's not clear how much he'll be able to play this Sunday against Detroit. Still, when healthy he should take over as the No. 2 or No. 3 receiver.

Set to resume practicing
Head coach Frank Reich said that Pittman (lower leg) will return to practice Wednesday, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.
Impact
With Pittman having been designated to return from injured reserve, the Colts now have a 21-day window to decide whether to return the wideout to the active roster or to keep him on IR for the remainder of the season. Unless Pittman suffers a setback, however, it's safe to assume that he's in the team's plans, with offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni indicating that he's eager to welcome Pittman back to the team's pass-catching mix. Prior to his injury, Pittman hauled in nine of his 12 targets for 73 yards in three games.

Moved to injured reserve
Pittman (leg) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
Impact
Considering coach Frank Reich relayed Friday there was no specific timetable in regard to Pittman's return from lower-leg surgery, the IR designation seemed like the most plausible outcome. The Colts activated tight end Trey Burton (calf) off injured reserve Saturday and presumably could use him to offset a pretty beleaguered Colts receiving corps, but expect the likes of T.Y. Hilton and Zach Pascal to assume the majority of WR snaps with Daurice Fountain, Ashton Dulin and Dezmon Patmon battling for the remaining scraps.

Impact
When Pittman returns to the lineup will depend on how he responds to rehab, but the Colts hope he'll be back after the team's Week 7 bye. He could be placed on IR to open up a roster spot, and he'd still be eligible to return Week 8 against the Lions. With Parris Campbell (knee) already on IR, T.Y. Hilton and Zach Pascal are locked into starting roles while Daurice Fountain, Ashton Dulin and Dezmon Patmon battle for the remaining reps.

Slated to miss time

Impact
Per Reich, Pittman was diagnosed with compartment leg syndrome, and the team's medical staff determined that the best course of action for the 2020 second-rounder was for him to undergo surgery to relieve the resulting pressure in his leg. As a result, Pittman is in line to miss several weeks of action, and in his absence there should be added pass-catching opportunities for players like Zach Pascal, Ashton Dulin, Daurice Fountain and Dezmon Patmon.

Likely to miss multiple weeks
Pittman underwent surgery to address a calf injury sustained during Monday's loss to the Jets and could be out until Week 8, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact
Pittman briefly exited Sunday's win over New York due to what was initially described as a lower leg injury, but he had to undergo surgery after the game to address what was diagnosed as compartment leg syndrome in his calf. Coach Frank Reich confirms that Pittman underwent surgery Sunday, per Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis, but he declined to verify the rookie's Week 8 recovery timetable. The Colts have already lost Parris Campbell (knee) for at least a number of contests, so if Pittman also is forced to miss multiple weeks, all of Zach Pascal, Ashton Dulin, Daurice Fountain and Dezmon Patmon will stand to handle increased snaps behind T.Y. Hilton. The Colts also could opt to place Pittman on IR and promote Marcus Johnson from the practice squad.

Could miss time
Coach Frank Reich said Monday that Pittman could miss time due to a lower leg injury sustained during Sunday's win over the Jets, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
Impact
Pittman managed to retake the field after getting injured Sunday, but Reich notes that his injury "worsened" overnight. With Parris Campbell (knee) already in line to miss a number of games on IR, a significant injury to Pittman could have the potential to derail Indianapolis' aerial attack. If the rookie second-round pick isn't able to suit up Week 4 in Chicago, Zach Pascal stands to start alongside T.Y. Hilton.

Pittman, who was forced out of Sunday's game against the Jets with an ankle injury, was later able to return to the contest, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
