Shines as starter Brown rushed 18 times for 79 yards and two touchdowns while adding three receptions (four targets) for 31 yards in Sunday's 20-17 win over Dallas.

Impact Brown was named the starter to begin the year following Todd Gurley's departure this past offseason. The career backup took full advantage of the opportunity and turned in a strong fantasy performance, averaging 4.4 yards per carry and punching in a pair of touchdowns. The Cowboys don't offer a lot of bulk on their defensive line, and the team did lose star linebacker Leighton Vander Esch (collarbone) early in the contest, making this a soft matchup on the ground. That said, neither of the Rams' other two backfield options could muster more than 3.0 yards per carry Sunday. Head coach Sean McVay said that he would use a three-man committee this season, and he held true to his word with Brown leading with 21 touches, rookie Cam Akers receiving 15 and third-down back Darrell Henderson getting just three. Brown is clearly the back to target heading into Sunday's matchup against the Eagles, and he could secure a larger share of committee touches going forward if he can maintain his Week 1 production.

Impact Brown's experience in the Rams offense must have won the day in L.A., but he could quickly lose his standing considering the pedigree of the backs behind him. Darrell Henderson, a 2019 third-round pick, is listed as the No. 2 RB, but his status for Week 1 is up in the air due to a strained hamstring. As for the No. 3 option, rookie second-rounder Cam Akers has received that honor. On Monday, coach Sean McVay told Kevin Modesti of the Los Angeles Daily News that he intends to utilize a three-back rotation Sunday against the Cowboys, but "how those carries will be distributed is something we'll determine really as the week progresses and as the game unfolds." As a result, Brown may have a short leash Week 1 if he in fact gets the start.

Running backs coach Thomas Brown said in late August that he would eventually like to see one of three backs emerge as a "clear-cut guy who takes a majority of the reps," but for now, the Rams appear content to let the battle for snaps extend into the regular season. Though McVay is "optimistic" that Henderson will be cleared in time for the season opener, the practice reps the second-year back has missed out on due to the injury could be enough to put him behind Brown and Akers -- in some order -- in the Rams' Week 1 backfield mix.

Williams of Sports Illustrated marks Brown as the team's starter, but as it pertains to Week 1 that could simply imply that Brown -- who has been with the franchise since 2015 -- might take the first snap out of the team's backfield, with Akers (and possibly Henderson) rotating in, until a hot hand emerges. Akers -- a promising 2020 second-rounder -- still carries the most fantasy upside of the three, but the rookie won't be handed anything following an unusual offseason, especially with an experienced option like Brown also around.

Impact Not only did the veteran receive the first carries of the scrimmage, sophomore Darrell Henderson limped off the field with a hamstring strain and is questionable for Week 1. Brown has the trust of head coach Sean McVay and has been a reliable contributor for the Rams when given an opportunity the past three seasons. Plus, it's easy to overlook that the 27-year-old back was a five-star recruit out of high school and a 25-game starter for Texas. Fast forward, and Brown's got oodles of tread on the tires after receiving just 143 career carries over his five-year pro career. Add that rookie Cam Akers lost a fumble Saturday, and Brown's short-term fantasy stock is on the rise. Just remember the veteran is also likely the least talented of Los Angeles' top three running backs.
