INJURIES
Moves to injured reserve
Williams (knee) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Williams suffered a sprained ACL last week, and it was only a matter of time before he was shifted to injured reserve. The 29-year-old will miss at least the next three games before being eligible to return.

Ruled out for Sunday
Williams (knee) won't play in Sunday's game versus the Dolphins, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Williams has a sprained ACL and is expected to land on IR, which would keep him out through Week 7. His absence Sunday will hurt the team's secondary depth, as Emmanuel Moseley (concussion) and Dontae Johnson (groin) are ruled out and Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) is questionable. Expect Jason Verrett and Ken Webster to start at cornerback Sunday if Witherspoon can't go.

Dealing with sprained ACL
Williams was diagnosed with an ACL sprain Tuesday and is expected to be placed on IR, Doug Kyed of NESN.com reports.
Impact
Williams won't require surgery and could even return after just three weeks on IR if his rehab goes as planned. It's encouraging that he avoided a severe injury, but the 49ers can't afford to lose secondary depth. Jason Verrett and Ken Webster are the only two cornerbacks who finished Sunday's loss to the Eagles healthy, although Richard Sherman (hamstring) could return from IR in Week 5 against Miami.

IR expected
Williams (knee) is expected to land on the 49ers' injured reserve, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Williams (knee) injured his knee in Sunday's game against the Eagles. The severity of the injury is still unknown, but he will have to be sidelined for at least three weeks if the does indeed get placed on IR.

Hurts knee against Philly
Williams (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Eagles.
Impact
Williams battled a hip injury in the lead-up to this game, but it's unclear if the two injuries are linked. His absence is a major hit to a 49ers cornerback corps that's already without Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring), Richard Sherman (calf) and Emmanuel Moseley (concussion).

Ready for Sunday night
Williams (hip) is active for Sunday's game against the Eagles.
Impact
Williams has managed to progress enough in his recovery from a hip injury sustained Week 3 that he won't be forced to miss any time. Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) and Emmanuel Moseley (concussion) won't play Sunday, and Richard Sherman (hamstring) is still on IR, so Williams looks set to handle an every-down role at cornerback.

Questionable for Sunday's contest
Williams (hip) is questionable for Sunday's game versus the Eagles, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact
After starting as a non-participant Wednesday, Williams has logged two straight limited sessions and could avoid missing any time. With Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) and Emmanuel Moseley (concussion) already ruled out in addition to Richard Sherman (hamstring) still being on IR, Williams is in line for an every-down role if he can shake off the injury in time.

Held back in practice Thursday
Williams (hip) was limited during Thursday's practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Though Williams picked up a Week 3 start and ultimately played over 60 percent of San Francisco's defensive snaps against the Giants, it was discovered after the contest that he's been beset with a hip issue. Now that Williams has proven he can field a limited workload, a full-go during Friday's session would further solidify his status for the 49ers' Week 4 matchup against Philadelphia's bottom-10 pass offense.

Dealing with hip injury
Williams suffered a hip injury during Sunday's win over the Giants, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
The 29-year-old had five tackles and one pass breakup while playing 33 of 52 defensive snaps during Sunday's victory, but coach Kyle Shanahan said he's now battling hip discomfort. Williams' outlook for Week 4 should receive additional clarity once San Francisco returns to practice Wednesday.

Back at practice
Williams returned to practice after dealing with a calf strain, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact
Williams returned to practice after he suffered a Grade 1 calf strain in training camp in mid-August. The fact that he's back is certinly a positive sign for his availability for Week 1, however, he's not a lock to suit up. It's wroth monitoring Williams' status, as he's expected to start opposite Richard Sherman at cornerback.

Set to miss 2-to-3 weeks
Williams has a Grade 1 calf strain and is expected to miss 2-to-3 weeks, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact
Williams is the 49ers' top slot cornerback, but he's in danger of missing Week 1. If he takes the full three weeks, he'll return to the field Sept. 8 -- just five days before the season opener versus Arizona. Jamar Taylor is expected to fill in at slot corner for the time being. It's worth keeping an eye on Williams' progress, as the 49ers' secondary has serious questions marks already, including who will start opposite Richard Sherman at right cornerback.

Absent from practice
Williams did not practice Sunday due to a calf injury, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact
The severity of Williams' injury remains undisclosed, but he'll have ample time to get healthy ahead of Sept. 13's season-opener against Arizona. When healthy, the 28-year-old will be a key contributor in San Francisco's secondary as the team's top slot corner.
