INJURIES

Hanging up cleats Williams is expected to retire from the NFL according to his agent, Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette reports.
Impact Williams missed the entirety of 2023 due to an ankle injury and was unable to find a good fit for 2024 after receiving medical clearance to play again. The 33-year-old played eight seasons in the NFL, starting in Cleveland before a five-year stint with the 49ers before his final season, which was with the Broncos. Williams' career will come to a close with 105 games played, with 54 of them being starts, 345 combined tackles, and 34 passes defended, including five interceptions.

Has full medical clearance Williams (ankle), who remains a free agent, received full medical clearance in March, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports.
Impact Williams has reportedly drawn interest from five NFL teams, but he isn't expected to officially ink with a club until after April's draft. The veteran cornerback also reportedly isn't a candidate to re-sign with the Broncos, where he suited up for 14 regular-season games in 2022 before missing all of the 2023 campaign due to an ankle injury which required surgery.
MARCH 30, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Undergoes ankle surgery Williams underwent surgery on his left ankle Thursday, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports.
Impact The expected recovery timeline of 12 weeks all but rules out the possibility of Williams returning this season, but there's good reason for optimism that he'll be ready to go again soon after the 2023 campaign wraps up. In the meantime, Fabian Moreau and Ja'Quan McMillian seem to be Denver's favored options at cornerback behind incumbent All-Pro Patrick Surtain.
OCTOBER 26, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Likely done for season Williams (ankle) is set to have another surgery Monday and probably won't return this season, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Impact Williams had ankle surgery at the end of August and was consequently placed on IR. Per Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette, the cornerback had been working out on a side field, but it was recently determined that he hasn't regained enough strength in his leg. That finding necessitated the need for a second surgery, which will almost certainly end Williams' season unless the Broncos are able to get into the playoffs.
OCTOBER 21, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Done with concussion Williams suffered a concussion in Sunday's game against the Chargers and will not return, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Impact Williams will have to finish his season on the sidelines. In his absence, Essang Bassey will likely take on a bigger role in the Broncos' secondary.
JANUARY 8, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Exits early Williams has left Sunday's game against the Chargers to be evaluated for a concussion.
Impact Williams will certainly miss the remainder of the contest if he suffered a concussion. In his absence, Essang Bassey will likely take on a larger role for the rest of the game.
JANUARY 8, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Ready for Christmas matchup Williams (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Rams.
Impact After being listed as questionable to suit up in Week 16 versus Los Angeles due to a lingering knee issue, Williams has ultimately received the green light to continue operating in his usual rotational cornerback role Sunday behind Patrick Surtain and Damarri Mathis.
DECEMBER 25, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Questionable for Christmas Day Williams (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at the Rams, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact Williams did not practice Thursday as he dealt with a lingering knee injury, though he was able to play through the same issue in Week 15, so whether he'll be available for Week 16 seems to be close to a coin-flip proposition. If Williams can't go Sunday, Essang Bassey would probably be in line for an expanded role at corner.
DECEMBER 23, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
DNP on Thursday Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said that Williams (knee) will not participate in Thursday's practice, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Williams missed three games in a row while dealing with a knee injury before returning Week 14 against Kansas City. The 31-year-old then played 46 defensive snaps in back-to-back games, but it appears this knee issue has continued to affect him, as he was also limited during practice Wednesday. Williams will now have one more opportunity to increase his activity before Friday's final injury report, or else he could miss Denver's game against the Rams on Christmas Day.
DECEMBER 22, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Will play Sunday Williams (knee) has been ruled active ahead of Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact While Williams was previously expected to remain out against Kansas City, he is now set to play for the first time since going down with a knee injury Week 10. The 31-year-old recorded 30 tackles, one sack and five passes defended, including an interception, while playing over half of Denver's defensive snaps across each of the first nine games. Williams' return will be a big boost as the Broncos attempt to slow down the Chiefs' prolific passing attack Sunday.
DECEMBER 11, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Won't play vs. Kansas City Williams (knee) is listed as out for Sunday's game versus the Chiefs, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact Williams appeared set to return from a three-game absence earlier in the week, but he'll now be forced to miss his fourth consecutive game. With Williams out, Essang Bassey should be in line for an expanded role, specifically in the slot.
DECEMBER 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Absent from injury report Williams (knee) is not listed on the Broncos' injury report ahead of Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
Impact Wiliams is set to return from a three-game absence. Barring any setbacks, he will presumably return to his usual role in the Broncos' secondary.
DECEMBER 10, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Ruled out Sunday Williams (knee) was downgraded Saturday and will not play against the Ravens on Sunday, Ian Rappaport of NFL Network reports.
Impact Williams will be out again this week and has not played since injuring his knee back in Week 10 against the Titans. Despite returning to practice Thursday for the first time since getting injured, the 31-year-old cornerback will need to wait at least another week before making his return. Darius Phillips will get the start for what's been a banged-up Broncos secondary as they look to slow down Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense this week.
DECEMBER 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Questionable for Week 13 Williams (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens.
Impact Williams is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery and has missed Denver's last two games. However, he returned to practice and logged limited sessions both Thursday and Friday. If he were to return, Williams would likely step back into a significant role in Denver's secondary.
DECEMBER 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Returning to practice Williams (knee) will return to practice Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Impact Williams underwent arthroscopic knee surgery the week of Nov. 14 and was expected to miss at least four weeks. However, he was never placed on injured reserve, and his return to practice, even if in limited fashion, suggests he may return sooner than anticipated. He is considered questionable for Sunday against the Ravens, and if he were unable to play, Essang Bassey would likely continue seeing an increased workload.

NOVEMBER 14, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Leaves with injury Williams (knee) has left Sunday's contest early against the Titans.
Impact Williams' current absence will leave the team without one of their starting corners. While he is out, Damarri Mathis or Essang Bassey will likely step up to replace him.

Makes return to practice field Williams returned to practice Monday.
Impact It's a good sign that Williams has fully put behind him the non-contact knee injury he suffered during training camp just over a week ago. Now that he's back, he'll compete for reps as the Broncos' third corner with fellow Panther and 2022 fourth-rounder Damarri Mathis.
