Impact Johnson was added to the injury report Thursday and listed as a limited participant the final two days of the week, while fellow tight end Adam Trautman -- also listed as questionable -- managed just one limited practice Friday due to an ankle injury. Trautman was out last week for the Thursday loss to Arizona, in which Johnson caught five passes for 32 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson is the team's top receiving tight end either way, but his projection gets a slight boost if he plays and Trautman doesn't.

Impact Johnson avoided the injury report entirely Wednesday, so his inclusion one day later could be indicative of an injury suffered on the practice field. Ultimately, his listing Friday may give a sense of his potential to play Sunday against the Raiders. With Adam Trautman (ankle) unable to practice the last two weeks, Johnson would be in line for top positioning on the TE depth chart if he's able to demonstrate his health in the coming days.

Impact Trautman led the position group in snaps from Weeks 3 through 5, but his early exit in last Sunday's loss to the Bengals opened the door for Johnson to clear 70 percent of the offensive snaps for the first time since Week 2. Johnson finished the contest with four receptions for 41 yards on six targets on a 77 percent snap share, and he could see his play count tick up Thursday while Trautman is out for the entirety of the contest. Moreover, the Saints are down two of their top three receivers in Michael Thomas (foot) and Jarvis Landry (ankle), though Chris Olave (concussion) is back in action after a one-game absence. Even so, Johnson could conceivably find himself as the Saints' No. 3 target behind Olave and running back Alvin Kamara, as New Orleans' other pass-catching options at wideout and tight end are mostly underwhelming.

He led all Saints TEs in targets, though Taysom Hill rushed four times for 81 yards and a touchdown while also making one two-yard catch. The 2020 UDFA is only a deep depth stash for fantasy at this point, but his involvement will be worth monitoring Week 2 versus Tampa Bay. He converted positions from wide receiver last offseason.

Signs one-year deal Johnson, who had been an exclusive rights free agent, has signed a one-year deal with the Saints, Luke Johnson of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Impact Johnson, who joined the Saints as a UDFA in 2020, switched from wideout to tight end last season and ended up logging 13 catches (on 22 targets) for 159 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games. Now that he's back in the fold, the 25-year-old will continue to work in a New Orleans TE corps that also includes Adam Trautman, Nick Vannett, Ethan Wolf and Dylan Soehner, with Garrett Griffin slated to become a restricted free agent. As long as Trautman remains healthy and available, however, Johnson is off the fantasy radar in most formats.

Impact After converting from wide receiver during the offseason, Johnson was one of three New Orleans tight ends to have a sizable role in 2021. However, Johnson ran a route on over 52 percent of his offensive snaps while Adam Trautman (33.8) and Vannett (36.3) hovered around one third. Moreover, Johnson's four touchdowns were more than Trautman (two) and Vannett (one) combined. While his overall stat line still wasn't very useful for fantasy purposes, Johnson had impressive moments for an undrafted player who changed positions ahead of his second season in the pros. As an exclusive-rights free agent, Johnson should be back in New Orleans in 2022, when he'll again look to push Trautman and Vannett for receiving reps at tight end.
