INJURIES

Ruled out for Week 7 Palmer (concussion) won't play Sunday against the Seahawks.
Impact With Palmer -- who didn't practice this week -- ruled out, look for DeAndre Carter to see added Week 7 opportunities in the Chargers' passing game, more so if Keenan Allen (hamstring, questionable) ends up limited or out Sunday. Palmer now will target a potential return to action Sunday, Nov. 6 in Atlanta following his team's upcoming bye week.

Misses another practice Palmer (concussion) didn't practice Thursday.
Impact Palmer has one more chance to return to practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Seahawks, but if he ends up sidelined this weekend, DeAndre Carter would be a candidate to see added Week 7 opportunities in the Chargers' passing game versus Seattle.

Dealing with concussion Palmer didn't practice Wednesday after entering the concussion protocol.
Impact The wideout is coming off a nine-catch, 57-yard effort (on 12 targets) in Monday's 19-16 overtime win over the Broncos, but the Chargers didn't provide any indication he suffered the head injury until he showed up on the team's first Week 7 injury report. Palmer's added volume in the contest was due to the absence of Keenan Allen (hamstring), who logged a limited practice Wednesday. Even if Palmer clears the protocol before Sunday's game against the Seahawks, he could be a lesser priority in the passing attack if Allen is able to make it back to the lineup.
OCTOBER 19, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Steps up in win Palmer recorded nine receptions on 12 targets for 57 yards in Monday's 19-16 win over the Broncos.
Impact Palmer finished second on the team in targets and receptions, also posting his best marks of the season in those areas. He worked primarily in the short areas of the field -- his longest reception went for 14 yards -- as Justin Herbert was unable to push the ball down the field effectively. Palmer's role will likely dwindle once Keenan Allen (hamstring) is able to return.
OCTOBER 18, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Posts another uneven outing Palmer tallied three receptions (six targets) for 24 yards in Sunday's 30-28 win over the Browns.
Impact Keenan Allen (hamstring) surprisingly continues to miss time, but it hasn't really helped the fantasy prospects of Palmer who registered his second consecutive game with fewer than four receptions. Palmer had built up a bit of preseason hype after emerging as the team's No. 3 wideout during training camp, but he's been an inconsistent disappointment for a team that typically passes the ball plenty. A difficult matchup against the Broncos secondary is up next for Palmer and company.
OCTOBER 11, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Good to go Sunday Palmer (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Browns.
Impact Despite taking a questionable tag into the weekend, Palmer always seemed like a good bet to play after turning in a pair of limited practices before upgrading to full participation Friday. With Palmer now having been formally cleared to suit up, he'll look to capitalize on the absence of top wideout Keenan Allen (hamstring), who is missing his fourth straight game. Palmer laid an egg in the Chargers' Week 4 win over Houston, playing 57 percent of the offensive snaps while drawing just one target.
OCTOBER 9, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Status in question for Week 5 Palmer (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest at Cleveland.
Impact After kicking off Week 5 prep with back-to-back limited practices due to an ankle issue, Palmer capped it with a full session Friday. While his status is up in the air heading into the weekend, he has the benefit of a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff to determine his availability this Sunday. If he's active, he'll be working in a receiving corps without Keenan Allen (hamstring) for a fourth straight game, which has resulted in an 11-154-1 line on 18 targets for Palmer during that stretch.
OCTOBER 7, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Limited by ankle issue Palmer was a limited participant at practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Impact Palmer's status is worth tracking as Sunday's game against the Browns approaches, with Keenan Allen (hamstring) not practicing Wednesday and uncertain to return to the lineup this weekend. If Allen remains sidelined this weekend, Palmer, DeAndre Carter and possibly Michael Bandy would be in line for added opportunities versus the Browns.

OCTOBER 4, 2022 • CHARGERS.COM
Catches just one pass Palmer caught his lone reception for 25 yards in Sunday's 34-24 win over the Texans.
Impact Keenan Allen (hamstring) missed his third straight game, but with the Chargers ahead for most of the game Palmer ultimately took a back seat, playing just 57 percent of the offensive snaps compared to 90-plus in the past two contests. Allen is listed as day-to-day entering Week 5 and likely would bump Palmer completely out of the slot, where he's been thriving in past weeks. Expect more inconsistent performances to follow despite being well-situated in an explosive offense.

Breakout game in loss Palmer tallied six receptions (on nine targets) for 99 yards in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Jaguars.
Impact Palmer finally had the type of game many thought was possible after earning the No. 3 wide receiver role during training camp. A 45-yard catch-and-run late in the second half ended up being the second most explosive play by the Chargers all afternoon, but it also showcased Palmer's speed, which has been an underreported part of his game. Keenan Allen (hamstring) seems like he could be back after missing the last two weeks, but it's possible Palmer could still be a reliable factor within the Chargers offense even if the veteran is able to make his return.

Chargers' Justin Herbert day-to-day with fractured rib cartilage

QB Justin Herbert, who briefly exited the Chargers' loss to the Chiefs on Thursday, has fractured rib cartilage and is day-to-day.

Chargers' Justin Herbert day-to-day with fractured rib cartilage
Late TD salvages day Palmer snared four passes on eight targets for 30 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's 27-24 loss to the Chiefs.
Impact Palmer ultimately was top two in terms of routes run and offensive snaps among the team's wide receivers with Keenan Allen (hamstring) sidelined, but the second-year wideout didn't really make do with the additional opportunities. It appeared as if quarterback Justin Herbert and Palmer had a bit of a disconnect throughout the first half whether it be ball placement or precision of routes, but a touchdown in the waning seconds of the loss did end up salvaging what would have been a disappointing outcome for Palmer's fantasy managers. The Chargers, who saw Herbert labor through an apparent rib injury throughout the later stages of the fourth quarter, will have 10 days to heal up before squaring off against the Jaguars in Week 3.
SEPTEMBER 16, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Primed for key role Palmer could have a heightened role in the Chargers' passing attack Thursday against the Chiefs with teammate Keenan Allen (hamstring) ruled out for the contest.
Impact Palmer profiles as the Chargers' No. 2 receiver in a game with one of the highest expected point totals of Week 2. He managed just five receiving yards on four targets in a 24-19 win over Las Vegas in Week 1, but Palmer's 75 percent snap share in the contest was third-largest of his career. The Chargers used Palmer as their No. 2 receiver and DeAndre Carter as the No. 3 after Allen was injured last week, while Jalen Guyton barely got off the bench (five snaps).

Enters concussion protocol Palmer is in the concussion protocol, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Impact Palmer presumably got hurt during Saturday's preseason game, in which he toasted the Cowboys for 3-75-1 on four targets. He looks to be ahead of Jalen Guyton in the competition for the No. 3 receiver spot, though it's possible both guys play some behind Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. With his concussion occurring 22 days before a Week 1 matchup with Las Vegas, the second-year wideout should have enough time to make his way through the NFL's concussion protocol.
AUGUST 22, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Team-high receiving yards in loss Palmer secured three of four targets for 75 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers' 32-18 preseason loss to the Cowboys on Saturday night.
Impact Palmer notched a team-high amount of receiving yardage and also recorded an 18-yard touchdown grab off a screen pass early in the second quarter. The 22-year-old notably saw the first two targets of the game from Easton Stick, with the first play resulting in a defensive offside penalty and the second in an interception. Palmer's strong performance Saturday after he went without a catch in the preseason-opening loss to the Rams seemingly further cements his hold on the No. 3 receiver job.

AUGUST 15, 2022 • CHARGERS.COM
Comes up empty on four targets Palmer didn't bring in any of his four targets in the Chargers' 29-22 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday night.
Impact Palmer, the frontrunner for the No. 3 receiver job, got the first target of the night with neither Keenan Allen nor Mike Williams in action. The former, a 2021 third-round pick, turned in a solid rookie season with 33 receptions, 353 yards and four touchdowns on 49 targets, and the experience he garnered should serve him well in his quest to make a significant second-year leap.

Joshua Palmer emerging as bigger threat in Chargers' offense

The momentum Joshua Palmer built up last season with the Los Angeles Chargers has continued through the first two weeks of training camp
AUGUST 10, 2022 • Associated Press
Clear frontrunner for No. 3 WR Palmer has been the No. 3 wide receiver during the majority of the Chargers' practices thus far in training camp, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
Impact It's still relatively early in the preseason, but Palmer has seemingly wrestled away the No. 3 wide receiver duties from Jalen Guyton. Palmer, a second-year wideout, was already playing with the first-stringers during offseason OTAs and has only solidified the rationale with a strong performance during training camp to date. While Guyton has reportedly also had a strong camp, it seems more likely the two-year starter might be relegated to sub packages within the offense whenever the Chargers need additional speed on the field, and that's not even a guarantee given DeAndre Carter has emerged as an intriguing pass catcher in his own right. The team neglected to outright name a starting slot receiver in the first "unofficial" depth chart release, but at this point, the job is clearly Palmer's to lose.
