Impact Love will sit Week 18 as Green Bay prioritizes maintaining the starting quarterback's health for the postseason, as the team is already locked into the No. 7 seed in the NFC side of the playoffs. LaFleur said team is still working through the process of determining the backup for Tune, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports, with candidates presumably including both Malik Willis (shoulder/hamstring) and recent practice-squad signee Desmond Ridder. As such, Love wraps the regular season with 14 appearances, in which span he completed 291 of 439 pass attempts for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed 47 times for 199 yards.

Impact This marks Love's first uncapped session since he sustained a concussion Week 16 at Chicago, but coach Matt LaFleur told Matt Schneidman of The Athletic earlier Wednesday that Love still was in the concussion protocol, while also saying some starters won't suit up Sunday in Minnesota. Although No. 2 QB Malik Willis (right shoulder/hamstring) was limited Wednesday, he wasn't among the signal-callers (Love and practice-squad members Clayton Tune and Desmond Ridder) spotted throwing, according to Demovsky. The Packers are locked into the No. 7 seed in the NFC side of the playoffs, so they don't have much incentive to put Love or even Willis in harms way, but it remains anyone guess who among that duo or even Tune will be under center for Green Bay this weekend.

Per Zach Kruse of USA Today, LaFleur confirmed Wednesday that some starters will be held out of Sunday's regular-season finale against the Vikings, with the Packers are already locked into the No. 7 seed of the NFC playoffs. While LaFleur declined to specify which starters won't play, it could make sense to allow both Love and Willis time to get healthy for the postseason, even if one or both are cleared to play Week 18. Green Bay is signing Desmond Ridder to the practice squad Wednesday, a move that provides the team with additional depth alongside Tune in case Love and/or Willis are unavailable versus Minnesota.

That LaFleur had to offer any such confirmation is less indicative of Love's performance this season, which the coach called "high-level football", than the quality of play Willis put forth in replacement versus the Bears in Week 16 and while logging a spot-start versus the Ravens in Week 17. However, Willis was forced out late versus Baltimore and replaced by third-string quarterback Clayton Tune. While Willis reportedly could have returned to action against the Ravens had the game still been in contention, the fact remains that the Packers are entering Week 18 already having clinched the No. 7 seed in the NFC playoffs, with the team's starting QB still in the concussion protocol and its backup at less than 100 percent health. That could lead LaFleur to prioritize the health of his signal-callers and allow both Love and Willis to close out the regular season on the sidelines. LaFleur will likely reveal more about his plans for Week 18 by the time Green Bay returns to practice Wednesday.
