INJURIES

Makes one reception count Guyton secured his only target for a 72-yard touchdown in the Chargers' 38-31 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Impact Drawing a spot start in the No. 2 wideout role in place of Mike Williams (hamstring), Guyton was nearly a complete non-factor on the afternoon before breaking free on a post pattern on the final play of the third quarter to erase a 28-24 deficit for the Chargers. The big scoring play gave those who streamed Guyton in season-long formats or utilized him as a DFS punt play something for their trouble, and it remains to be seen if the North Texas product will have another starting opportunity in Williams' stead in a Week 5 road matchup against the Saints.

Catches two passes Guyton caught two of his three targets for 23 yards in the 21-16 loss Sunday to the Panthers.
Impact Guyton didn't see much of a jump in targets even after Mike Williams left Sunday's game with a hamstring injury. That's to be expected considering Guyton is essentially meant to be a speedy distraction for opposing defenses. It's unclear what Williams' status will be for next Sunday, but expect the offense to funnel even more of its production through Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen and Hunter Henry in the event he was unable to play.

First NFL touchdown Guyton caught one of his two targets for a 14-yard touchdown in Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to the Chiefs.
Impact Guyton celebrated his first NFL touchdown, but that's all there was to celebrate. Two games in and Guyton has been quiet, only seeing three targets on 91 snaps. The No. 3 wideout's role didn't change much despite rookie quarterback Justin Herbert receiving a spot start in place of the injured Tyrod Taylor (chest), tallying just 14 yards and seeing one lone red-zone target. Contrast that to Keenan Allen (seven catches for 96 yards), Austin Ekeler (four for 55) and Hunter Henry (six for 88 yards), and it's clear Guyton's simply not in a profitable fantasy situation.

Snares only target Guyton caught his lone target for 16 yards in Sunday's 16-13 win over the Bengals
Impact There was some thought Guyton could emerge as an intriguing speed option if Mike Williams were ruled out Sunday after spraining his shoulder, but the big-bodied wideout managed to power through, relegating Guyton to the No. 3 role. Much like Travis Benjamin in past seasons, Guyton simply acted as an empty downfield threat through most of Sunday's game, only seeing one target and playing just under 65 percent of the team's offensive snaps. Don't expect much from the second-year wideout unless the Chargers suddenly decide to change his role.

Still seeing starting snaps Guyton continues to see first-team reps in practice, Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact The injury to Mike Williams (shoulder) essentially assures that Guyton will be a starter for the team's offense at least early on, but that doesn't necessarily mean the speedster will see that many opportunities. After all, Travis Benjamin, who largely occupied the same projected role as Guyton will be to start 2020, caught just 18 passes over his last 17 games with the Chargers largely acting as a decoy deep threat. The Williams injury might allow for rookies like Joe Reed or K.J. Hill to pick up prominent snaps as the other outside wide receiver, but it's more likely a narrow Chargers passing tree just becomes smaller with an over-reliance on Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler and Hunter Henry projected until the big-bodied wideout returns.

Chargers' Jennings looking to prove he can excel at receiver

Darius Jennings has displayed his ability on kick returns but he is hoping the Los Angeles Chargers will finally let him show what he can do at wide receiver
AUGUST 24, 2020 • Associated Press
Seeing first-team reps Guyton saw most of the first-team wide receiver reps alongside Mike Williams on Friday, Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact It's worth noting the Chargers have a desperate need for a No. 3 WR with Mike Williams solidified as an outside threat and Keenan Allen locked in for almost all of the slot work. Whoever ultimately ends up winning that job would be expected to play opposite Williams on the outside, which is why Guyton's speed, which was clocked an unofficial 4.35 at North Texas' pro day, makes for an intriguing option and likely effective decoy. Manzano did note Guyton's struggles as a starter, highlighting the play of seventh-round rookie K.J. Hill as the biggest standout during the opening week of Chargers training camp. However, neither Hill nor 2020 fifth-round pick Joe Reed possess the type of speed that Guyton has, so it'll be interesting to see whether the Chargers value the latter's specific skill set over the prospect of a more well-rounded player.
