INJURIES

Brandin Cooks - Sits out practice Wednesday Cooks didn't practice Wednesday due to hip and wrist injuries.
Impact Cooks was listed as questionable ahead of last week's game against the Giants on account of the wrist issue, but he suited up in the 24-16 loss and finished with four catches for 37 yards on seven targets to go with one carry for five yards. He's now dealing with a hip issue as this weekend's game against the Commanders approaches, though it's possible that the veteran wideout's absence Wednesday was mostly for maintenance purposes. If he's able to return to practice Thursday in any capacity, Cooks would still be in good shape to play this weekend.

At age 33, Houston still adding to sack total with Ravens

Justin Houston already has 8 1/2 sacks this season despite missing three games

Dare Ogunbowale - Dealing with injury Ogunbowale (foot) was listed as a non-participant on the Texans' injury report Wednesday.
Impact Ogunbowale caught one pass while playing three of his 23 total snaps on offense against the Giants in Week 10, though he appears to have come away with a foot injury following this loss. Unless he increases his practice activity Thursday or Friday, the 28-year-old will likely be at risk of missing his first game of the season Sunday versus the Commanders. Ogunbowale recorded 43 rushes for 137 yards and a touchdown over 17 contests with Jacksonville last year, though he's primarily played on special teams over his first nine games with Houston.

Texans claim WR Rodgers off waivers after release by Packers

The Houston Texans claimed receiver Amari Rodgers off waivers Wednesday a day after he was released by the Green Bay Packers
NOVEMBER 16, 2022 • Associated Press
Amari Rodgers - Picked up by Houston Rodgers was claimed off waivers by the Texans on Wednesday, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Rodgers will end up with Houston just one day after being waived by Green Bay, where he struggled with special-teams turnovers while failing to provide much receiving production during his first two seasons. Now, the 2021 third-round pick could have a chance to turn things around thanks to this change of scenery, as the Texans' primary punt returner, Desmond King, has averaged just 6.9 yards over 13 attempts this season. Rodgers shuld also compete with veterans Chris Moore, Phillip Dorsett and Tyron Johnson for the Texans' No. 3 receiving role behind starters Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins.

Michael Dwumfour - Designated to return from IR Dwumfour (shoulder) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday.
Impact Dwumfour is set to return to practice for the first time since being placed on IR in October with a shoulder issue. The Texans will have 21 days to either activate him or leave him on IR for the remainder of the season, the first of which seems more likely. In four games this season, Dwumfour has registered two tackles while playing 108 defensive snaps.

Eno Benjamin - Scooped up by Houston The Texans claimed Benjamin off waivers from the Cardinals on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact Before being effectively phased out of the offense in the Cardinals' Week 10 loss to the Rams, Benjamin enjoyed a solid run as Arizona's lead back from Weeks 6 through 8 while James Conner was sidelined with an injury. In those three games, Benjamin carried 36 times for 151 yards (4.2 average) and a touchdown while adding 11 receptions for 72 yards. After Arizona waiving him Monday, Benjamin unsurprisingly didn't take long to find a new home. In Houston, Benjamin could usurp Rex Burkhead and Dare Ogunbowale as the team's No. 2 running back, though Benjamin likely won't be in line for extensive work so long as standout rookie Dameon Pierce continues to remain healthy and productive in his three-down starting role.

Jalen Pitre - Losing snaps Pitre logged six tackles over 56 snaps in Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Giants in Week 10.
Impact Pitre had a big missed tackle in the third quarter, when Darius Slayton angled past the rookie for a 54-yard touchdown. He was benched for a few plays following the incident. Pitre leads the Texans with with 12 missed tackles, per Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle. After playing 100 percent of the defensive snaps over the first five weeks, making an early push for Defensive Rookie of the Year, Pitre has hovered at 84 percent in the four games since. Missed tackles appear to be costing him playing time.

O.J. Howard - Targeted once in Week 10 Howard did not catch his lone target in Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Giants in Week 10.
Impact Playing time opened up at tight end, as Brevin Jordan was a healthy inactive for the game, but it didn't do much for Howard. It was the fifth time in nine games that he's had one or fewer targets. Howard's been a non-factor since a two-TD day Week 1.
NOVEMBER 14, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Dare Ogunbowale - One target in loss Ogunbowale caught his lone target for 13 yards and did not have a carry in Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Giants in Week 10.
Impact Ogunbowale has played just six offensive snaps over the three last games. That followed a spasm of activity in the Week 7 loss to the Raiders, when he had six touches. At the time, head coach Lovie Smith indicated Ogunbowale's usage was an effort to provide a spark, and it's looking like a one-game thing. Houston has a thin backfield -- just three running backs -- so Ogunbowale is an injury away from more significant playing time.

Weekend gambling recap; Josh Allen injury causes huge line movement
Christian Kirksey - Staying consistent in 2022 Kirksey had eight tackles (three solo) and a half-sack in Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Giants.
Impact Kirksey has been remarkably consistent, notching between six and nine tackles in all but one game and five in the remaining contest. He also had a half-sack against the Broncos in Week 2, but the veteran linebacker rarely gets to the quarterback.
NOVEMBER 14, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Christian Harris - Career-high nine tackles in loss Harris racked up nine tackles (four solo) and a pass defensed in Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Giants.
Impact Making his fourth appearance for the Texans, Harris set a new career high in tackles while notching his first pass defensed. The rookie linebacker played 100 percent of the team's defensive snaps in the Week 10 loss and should maintain a prominent role moving forward on a rebuilding Houston team.
NOVEMBER 14, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Jonathan Owens - Notches 12 tackles in Week 10 Owens totaled a game-high 12 tackles (10 solo) in Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Giants.
Impact Owens notched his sixth double-digit tackling performance of the season. With opposing teams consistently gashing Houston's defense on the ground, opportunities to rack up tackles should remain plentiful for the 27-year-old safety moving forward.
NOVEMBER 14, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Davis Mills - Won't get benched Week 11 Houston head coach Lovie Smith said after Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Giants that he has no immediate plans to remove Mills from the starting role, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chro...
Impact Mills threw for a respectable 319 yards in the Week 10 loss, but he's shown signs of regressing in 2022 and his job security has been thrown into question as a result. Through nine games, Mills is completing fewer of his passes (62.3 percent) than he did as a rookie (66.8 percent), generating less yardage (6.7 yards per attempt from 6.8), and fielding a worse passer rating (81.67 from 88.8). Smith has been willing to pull underperforming starters before but has a different standard for quarterbacks. Third downs in particular have been a problem -- Houston has converted just 31 percent in such situations -- and the Texans entered Sunday's loss 22nd in touchdown percentage in the red zone. They'll be further down the list after managing just one touchdown in six red-zone trips Sunday, including four in the fourth quarter that resulted in two field goals and two turnovers.
NOVEMBER 14, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Teagan Quitoriano - More snaps, no targets Quitoriano was not targeted over 27 snaps in Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Giants in Week 10.
Impact After scoring a touchdown in his season debut Week 9, Quitoriano was given more snaps -- up from 18 -- but it didn't translate into targets. An interesting development, however, was that Brevin Jordan was made a healthy inactive, suggesting Quitoriano may be one of the three active tight ends on the roster going forward.
NOVEMBER 14, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Ka'imi Fairbairn - Records double-digit points Fairbairn converted three of three field-goal attempts and his lone extra-point kick in Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Giants in Week 10.
Impact Fairbairn reached double digits in points for the first time this season thanks to Houston's red-zone inefficiency. Three of the Texans' six red-zone trips resulted in Fairbairn field goals. It could have been more, but Houston turned the ball over twice in the shadow of New York's goal line. He's connected on 17 of 19 (89 percent) field-goal attempts, including all three from beyond the 50.
NOVEMBER 14, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Chris Moore - Logs three catches in loss Moore caught three of six targets for 70 yards in Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Giants in Week 10.
Impact The return of Brandin Cooks, who was inactive Week 9 against the Eagles, reduced Moore's playing time, but he remained a significant part of the passing game. He's third on the depth chart, but Moore is approaching career highs in catches, yards and targets.
