Jordan Akins - Looking good at camp Akins made a number of catches at Thursday's practice, John Harris of the Texans' official website reports.
Impact Akins is on track to work as Houston's top pass-catching tight end, with an opportunity to handle more snaps (and possibly targets) after Darren Fells left for Detroit in the offseason. The Texans did draft Brevin Jordan in the fifth round and still have 258-pound blocker Pharaoh Brown and 2019 third-round pick Kahale Warring, but Akins is the only tight end on the roster with more than 19 NFL receptions. Given the poor state of the team's WR group, Akins could see a handful of targets per game -- possibly even more if he can improve his blocking and earn a three-down role.

Deshaun Watson - Stuck with backups again Coach David Culley said Watson's workload didn't change on the second day of training camp, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Reports from Day 1 suggested Watson was the No. 4 quarterback and even lined up on defense at times, while Tyrod Taylor served as the first-team QB. Culley pointed to Watson's absence from the offseason program, but the coach also mentioned that the 25-year-old would need a lot of reps to catch up with his teammates. It's unclear if/when Watson might get those reps, with Culley declining to elaborate after Thursday's practice. Watson requested a trade during the offseason, and he's facing 22 civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault and misconduct.

Impact Walker won't be available for the beginning of training camp as a result of being placed on the NFI list. He spent his first four seasons in Denver and recorded 4.5 sacks in 2020 before signing a deal with Houston in April.

Impact Johnson will be sidelined for the start of camp as a result of the transaction. While transitioning from cornerback to safety last season, Johnson appeared in all 16 games and recorded 76 total tackles.

Pharaoh Brown - Begins camp on NFI list The Texans placed Brown on the non-football injury list Wednesday with an unspecified issue, NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reports.
Impact Brown re-signed with Houston on a one-year, $2.2 million deal in the spring, but he's not healthy entering training camp. The 27-year-old appeared in 13 games in 2020 and caught 14 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns.

Impact Armstrong will have about two weeks to get healthy before the Texans' preseason opener Aug. 14 against the Packers. The reserve cornerback appeared in 10 games in 2020, playing all 190 of his snaps on special teams.

Impact Miller had sustained a minor injury while participating in offseason activities with the Bears, but he was healthy for the start of Houston's training camp, four days after the Texans acquired him. After Houston traded Randall Cobb to Green Bay earlier in the day, Miller looks like the top slot receiver on the depth chart, although Keke Coutee will challenge him during camp and the preseason.
