49ers get back into groove headed into showdown in Seattle

When the San Francisco 49ers lost back-to-back home games to Philadelphia and Miami it appeared as if the season could be spiraling out of control for the defending NFC champions

Even rushing split with Perine Gore rushed 11 times for 60 yards in Sunday's 18-10 loss to Buffalo. He wasn't targeted in the passing game.
Impact Coach Adam Gase promised to get rookie La'Mical Perine more involved, and that's exactly what he did, as Perine finished with 11 carries and two catches on three targets. Gore outproduced Perine 60-39 on the ground, but it was the rookie who scored New York's only touchdown with a nice dive to the pylon from five yards out. There's little reason for the 0-7 Jets to give the 37-year-old Gore much work at Perine's expense moving forward, but Gore has carried the ball at least nine times in each of the past six games, and he'll likely see similar usage in Week 8 against the Chiefs.

Manages 70 scrimmage yards in loss Gore carried the ball 11 times for 46 yards and caught all four of his targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 24-0 loss to the Dolphins.
Impact While the numbers were modest, it was Gore's most productive game of the season so far in terms of scrimmage yards. His role on the ground didn't seem to change with Le'Veon Bell no longer around, but Gore did see season highs in targets and receptions. The veteran RB should again head the Jets' backfield in Week 7 against the Bills.

Increased duties on tap sans Bell Gore could handle more touches following news that the Jets released Le'Veon Bell on Tuesday.
Impact We already got a taste of how the Jets' backfield shapes up without Bell, as the running back missed three games this season with a hamstring injury. During that stretch, Gore averaged 17 touches per game. The 37-year-old didn't turn it into much production, recording no touchdowns and an average of 53.7 yards from scrimmage per game. However, Gore's consistent volume should make him a decent fantasy stash that can be used in a pinch. Rookie La'Mical Perine could see a bump in usage as well.

Quiet in Bell's return Gore rushed nine times for 30 yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game in Sunday's 30-10 loss to Arizona.
Impact As expected, Gore ceded the majority of backfield work to Le'Veon Bell in Bell's return from a hamstring injury. Bell doubled Gore's rushing yardage total on 13 carries and was the only Jets running back to have a pass thrown his way. Considering Gore wasn't doing much as the lead back with Bell sidelined, he's unlikely to pick it up now that Bell's back.

Role to shrink if Bell's ready Gore is expected to return to a backup role for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, as Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) has been designated to return to practice and will likely come off...
Impact Gore averaged 17 touches per game over the past three weeks but will likely sink back into the low-mid single digits with Bell back in the fold. The 37-year-old running back is averaging just 3.2 yards per carry and has topped 4.0 only once in the past six seasons.
OCTOBER 7, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Serves as lead back again Gore rushed 13 times for 30 yards and brought in one of two targets for six yards in the Jets' 37-28 loss to the Broncos on Thursday.
Impact The ageless Gore once again carried the bulk of the workload for the Jets' ground attack, but as was the case in the last two games, he found running room at a premium. Gore averaged just 2.3 yards per rush Thursday, as New York's offensive line seemed unable to run block or pass protect. With latest reports indicating Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) will likely be ready to return for a Week 5 home matchup against the Cardinals on Sunday, Oct. 11, Gore may have played his last game for now with the burden of the running game primarily on his shoulders.

Sluggish in Week 3 loss Gore carried the ball 15 times for 57 yards and caught his only target for five yards in Sunday's 36-7 loss to the Colts.
Impact The 37-year-old got a surprisingly solid workload considering how quickly the Jets fell behind in the game, but Gore wasn't able to do much with his touches. His outlook won't improve much in Week 4 against a Broncos defense that just held the Buccaneers' backfield to only 68 rushing yards and 2.7 yards per carry.

Feature back in blowout loss Gore rushed 21 times for 63 yards and failed to bring in either of his two targets in Sunday's 31-13 loss to the 49ers.
Impact Gore took on a workhorse role with Le'Veon Bell (hamstring) out, but he averaged a meager 3.0 yards per carry. The top four wide receivers on New York's depth chart are all injured, so the team continued to feed Gore despite trailing in the game from the very first play. Expect a similar game plan when New York travels to Indianapolis to take on another one of Gore's former teams.
