Surprisingly ruled out Chark (ankle) has been downgraded to out and will not play in Sunday's matchup against the Seahawks.

Impact Coach Dan Campbell hinted Friday that Chark would be able to play, but evidently the veteran's ankle injury was too difficult to overcome. The Lions will now be without three of their top offensive options with D'Andre Swift (shoulder), Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) and Chark all inactive. Expect Josh Reynolds and Kalif Raymond to see the majority of the snaps at wide receiver with tight end T.J. Hockenson and running back Jamaal Williams chipping in as capable mid-range targets.

Technically listed as questionable Chark (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Seattle, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.

Impact Coach Dan Campbell said Chark will play, while Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) already has been ruled out. Josh Reynolds (ankle, questionable) also appears on track to play, and both he and Chark have a nice opportunity to see more targets if their ankle injuries truly aren't significant. Behind them, the Lions have Kalif Raymond and Quintez Cephus at wide receiver.

Impact Chark will get a chance to operate as Detroit's top wideout with Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) ruled out, and his target opportunities could rise further if D'Andre Swift (shoulder) is unable to go. Josh Reynolds (ankle) and T.J. Hockenson (foot) also may see increased volume in the passing game, though both likewise dealt with injuries in practice this week.

Impact After opening the week as a limited participant Wednesday, Chark was sidelined Thursday along with top wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle), who also sat out Wednesday's session. Taking a step back in the middle of the week in terms of practice activity typically isn't a promising sign, though it's conceivable Chark's absence from Thursday's session may have been maintenance-based. Whatever the case, Chark -- as well as St. Brown -- will likely need to get back on the field in some fashion Friday before the Lions provide a gauge for their chances of suiting up Sunday against the Seahawks.

Impact Limited participation puts him a step ahead of fellow Detroit wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Josh Reynolds, both of whom were held out with ankle injuries. It's possible all three are ready for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, but Chark's target share projection would get a nice boost if he were able to play and St. Brown wasn't.

Impact Chark got back in the box score after going without a catch in Week 2 against Washington, but the prized offseason acquisition looked like the No. 3 wide receiver behind Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) and Josh Reynolds, who each gained at least 73 yards while seeing at least nine targets apiece. Chark is averaging a healthy 14 yards-per-catch through three games and could be leaned on more in the near future if St. Brown has any lingering effects from the ankle injury that required him to leave Sunday's game at one point. Up next is a Week 4 home matchup against a burnable Seahawks secondary.

Hockenson and D'Andre Swift served as the top complementary receiving options for Jared Goff. However, even though it is now apparent that Chark's downside is the absolute floor, he'll still remain an upside fantasy option in many weeks ahead given his momentary status as a top deep threat in an ascending Lions offense. Impact Playing against a mix of first- and second-team cornerbacks, Chark reportedly looked like the vertical threat that Detroit lacked last year. While he will likely lose opportunities to Jameson Williams (knee) by season's end, vertical targets in the Lions' new offense should be concentrated on him in the short term. Considering the 6-foot-4 wideout also has a solid chance of leading his team in red-zone targets, Chark could surprise as a fantasy asset during his $10 million "prove it" year.

Impact Chark largely stayed on the perimeter of the field during his time in Jacksonville, but it sounds like the Lions could be looking to get him the ball in other ways. However, with so many mouths to feed in the short-area passing game between Amon-Ra St. Brown, D'Andre Swift and T.J. Hockenson, it is fair to wonder how many more could be left over for someone else. Meanwhile, none of those other guys come close to having both of Chark's 6-foot-4 size and sub-4.4 speed, so the Lions don't really have a better option than Chark on the outside -- at least until Jameson Williams (knee) returns. In the end, most of Chark's production should be expected to come from his typical X-receiver alignment, though it is nice to know that there could be upside for more.
