INJURIES

Could see bump in playing time Coach Ron Rivera said Carter will get more playing time on offense Sunday against the Saints, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Impact The absences of Dyami Brown (knee) and Cam Sims (hamstring), coupled with uncertainty over the health of Curtis Samuel (groin), should open up more opportunities for Carter behind Terry McLaurin and Adam Humphries. Though Carter has previously struggled to make much of an impact in the NFL, he's off to a strong start this season in a special teams capacity, as he was named NFC special teams player of the week after scoring a 101-yard kickoff return touchdown against the Falcons. Now, the 28-year-old wide receiver could get more opportunities to utilize his shiftiness on offense while still maintaining a prominent special teams role.

Manages return TD Carter secured his only target for 24 yards during Sunday's 34-30 win over the Falcons. He also racked up 152 kick return yards, including a touchdown.
Impact Carter was named NFC special teams player of the week for his performance in Washington's narrow win over Atlanta. His highlight play came on the opening kick return of the second half, which he converted into a 101 yard return and score. On the season, Carter is averaging 27.8 yards per kick return and 9.3 yards per punt return.

Battling for depth spot Carter is in the mix for a roster spot, according to John Keim of ESPN.com.
Impact Washington appears to have open competition for the third through fifth/sixth spots at wide receiver, with Carter joined by Adam Humphries, Dyami Brown, Cam Sims, Steven Sims, Kelvin Harmon, Antonio Gandy-Golden and Isaiah Wright. It's a deep group -- one where nearly anyone could win the No. 3 job, and anyone besides Brown (a rookie third-round pick) could be released. Carter probably wouldn't make the cut on his wideout credentials alone, but his ability to return punts and kicks could put him over the top.

Back from COVID-19 list Carter was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday.
Impact Carter will return to the lineup in Sunday's game against the Jaguars. He's not expected to play much on offense, but he should be the Bears' primary punt returner. The 27-year-old has averaged 8.7 yards per punt return this season.

Shifts to COVID list Carter was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Impact Carter joined the Bears on Nov. 18, and he has so far made two appearances for his new team after suiting up nine times as a member of the Texans between Weeks 1 and 10. The 27-year-old has been assisting on punt returns while contributing a minor offensive role this season, but he'll remain unavailable for the immediate future upon posting a positive COVID-19 test Thursday morning.

Finds new home The Bears claimed Carter off waivers Wednesday, Larry Mayer of the team's official site reports.
Impact Carter was waived by the Texans on Tuesday, and he didn't have to wait long to find a new team. The Sacramento State product has been effective in the return game this season, averaging 8.7 yards on 11 punt returns and 20.8 yards on 12 kickoff returns with the Texans. Since Tarik Cohen suffered a torn ACL in Week 3 against the Falcons, the team has used three different punt return men, so Carter could slot into that role as early as Week 12 with the Bears on their bye week.

Let go by Houston Carter was waived by the Texans on Monday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact The 27-year-old was removed from his duties as the kick returner and split punt returns with Will Fuller during Sunday's loss to the Browns, and the Texans decided to part ways. C.J. Prosise handled kickoff returns in his place. Carter has one catch for eight yards, returned 12 kickoffs for 250 yards and 11 punts for 96 yards in nine games this season.
NOVEMBER 16, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Reduced return role Carter was replaced as the returner on kickoffs by C.J. Prosise in Sunday's 10-7 loss to the Browns, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact The Texans cut back on Carter's duties on special teams, replacing him completely on kickoffs while having wide receiver Will Fuller share the punt return duties. Carter returned one punt for nine yards in the loss.

Main kick returner in opener Carter returned three kickoffs for 66 yards and one punt for 19 yards in Thursday's 34-20 loss to the Chiefs in Week 1.
Impact Carter served as the fifth wideout, a slot that came down to him or Keke Coutee, who was inactive. Carter also played 13 snaps on offense and caught one of two targets for eight yards, but he's not expected to move the needle on offense unless there's an injury.
