Standouts: Kyle Rudolph returns; Slayton shines See which players stood out on Day 1 of joint practice with the Patriots.
AUGUST 25, 2021 • GIANTS.COM
To play in preseason finale Slayton is expected to play at least the first half of next Sunday's preseason finale versus the Patriots, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports.
Impact Slayton logged 13 snaps on offense in preseason Week 1 against the Jets, which resulted in one catch (on three targets) for eight yards. After joint practices with the Browns this past week, coach Joe Judge held out the starters this Sunday in Cleveland. With the Giants' dress rehearsal for the regular season in the near future, Slayton will be one of the key skill-position players for Daniel Jones alongside Sterling Shepard and Evan Engram, assuming Saquon Barkley (knee) and Kenny Golladay (hamstring) don't receive clearance to suit up.

Gets target competition in Round 1 The Giants took Kadarius Toney with the 20th overall pick Thursday night, making for a more crowded receiving corps.
Impact Slayton was already getting squeezed by the Kenny Golladay signing, and now he has another ostensibly prominent receiver with whom to compete. Sterling Shepard and tight end Evan Engram are around, too, and tailback Saquon Barkley will see looks out of the backfield, making it hard to see Slayton increasing his target share this year.

Giants sign WR Kenny Golladay to 4-year, $80 million deal

The New York Giants’ anemic offensive is adding quite possibly the best receiver on the free agent market
MARCH 20, 2021 • Associated Press
Modest Year 2 After a promising rookie season, Slayton put up a modest 96-50-751-3 line in 16 games.
Impact Slayton's yards per target dropped from 8.8 in 2019 to 7.8 in 2020, and he made fewer big plays despite an extra 12 targets. He also dropped five passes after not dropping a single one as a rookie. Slayton is still the Giants' best deep threat, and he should be more productive if the offensive line gives Daniel Jones -- or whoever is under center in 2021 -- more time to look down the field.

Inefficient with eight targets Slayton caught two of eight targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Ravens.
Impact Slayton finished with at least seven targets for the ninth time this season, but he recorded a measly 3.25 yards per target in this contest as he and Daniel Jones failed to connect on a consistent basis. He'll look to finish the season strong next week against the Cowboys, whom he put up an 8-129-0 line against in Week 5.

DECEMBER 27, 2020 • GIANTS.COM
Leads team in receiving Slayton had four receptions (nine targets) for 74 yards in Sunday's 20-6 loss to the Browns.
Impact Slayton continues to lead the Giants in targets despite the recent return of Sterling Shepard. The 2019 fifth-round pick has seen his production come to a screeching halt after a solid start to his sophomore campaign due to the recent drop-off in quarterback play. Colt McCoy is a decent veteran backup, but he lacks physical skills and is not going to light up the stat sheet. Despite generating his first relevant fantasy line in recent weeks, Slayton is going to need Daniel Jones (hamstring) to return in order to boost his fantasy stock next week against the Ravens.

Darius Slayton catches perfect pass from Colt McCoy | Giants vs. Browns Highlights New York Giants quarterback Colt McCoy's 35-yard lob lands perfectly in wide receiver Darius Slayton's breadbasket.
DECEMBER 21, 2020 • GIANTS.COM
Team-high eight targets in Week 14 Slayton caught three of eight targets for 31 yards in Sunday's 26-7 loss to the Cardinals.
Impact Slayton was the most frequent target for quarterback Daniel Jones, as no other Giant had more than five passes thrown his way. Despite all that volume, Slayton finished third on the team in receiving yards. This was a step in the right direction after Slayton caught just one pass for 14 yards over the previous two games, and the explosive receiver will look to build on this effort in Week 15 against the Browns.
DECEMBER 13, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Dismal production against Seattle Slayton caught his lone target for 14 yards in Sunday's 17-12 win over the Seahawks.
Impact The Giants defense won this game for the team, as quarterback Colt McCoy couldn't get anything going Sunday and finished with just 105 passing yards. Golden Tate and Evan Engram were the only pass catchers to record more than one reception, and neither player surpassed 32 receiving yards. Slayton thrives off the deep ball, and there's no recent evidence that McCoy can make those throws. It should be a favorable Week 14 matchup against the Cardinals, and Daniel Jones (hamstring) could be back in time to boost Slayton's ceiling.

Cleared for Week 13 Slayton (shoulder/foot) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Impact Slayton and Sterling Shepard (toe/shoulder) were both limited in practices Wednesday through Friday while they battled a pair of injuries apiece, but neither wideout will end up taking a designation into the weekend. With that in mind, Slayton looks poised to play a normal allotment of snaps, but the second-year player has been a risky fantasy option this season, turning in three games with 90-plus yards and three with 25 yards or fewer. Moreover, Colt McCoy is expected to step in at quarterback in place of Daniel Jones (hamstring) -- who is listed as doubtful -- adding another variable for Slayton's fantasy managers to take into account this week.

Gets in limited practice Slayton (shoulder/foot) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Impact Slayton has yet to log a full session this week as he deals with shoulder and foot injuries. Still, there's been no indication that his status is threatened for Sunday's contest at Seattle, which may be confirmed as soon as the release of Friday's practice report.
DECEMBER 3, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Limited at practice Slayton (shoulder/foot) was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Impact Slayton is listed with the two injuries that he's tended to at times this season, meaning his lack of full practice reps may be maintenance-related. Despite logging a significant snap count in most games this season, his production has been sporadic, with just two outings of 50-plus yards over the last six games and just one touchdown in 10 appearances since Week 1.
DECEMBER 2, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
No catches in win over Bengals Slayton failed to haul in either of his targets Sunday against the Bengals.
Impact Daniel Jones (hamstring) narrowly missed Slayton on a deep throw just off his fingertips that might have gone for a touchdown had he hung on. Once Jones got hurt, there was little chance for Slayton to make an impact playing with backup Colt McCoy. Slayton has a great matchup Week 13 in Seattle, but if Jones can't go, Slayton makes for a risky start with McCoy under center.
