Darius Slayton - NFL News, Rumors, & Updates

Cut loose by Indianapolis The Colts released Slayton on Friday.

Impact Slayton signed with the team on Sept. 21 and never managed to earn a role on offense despite the Colts having a clear need at wide receiver. That doesn't bode well for Slayton's NFL future with his 30th birthday coming up in January.

Practices in full Wednesday Slayton (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.

Impact Slayton popped up on Friday's injury practice due to a knee issue, which ultimately led to him being sidelined for the Colts' 34-22 loss to the Steelers this past Sunday. However, his ability to practice in full puts Slayton on track to make his Colts debut this Sunday against the Titans. The veteran wide receiver may see a decent workload in his Indianapolis debut, given that Josh Downs is working through a hamstring issue.

Won't play against Pittsburgh Slayton (knee) has been downgraded to out for Sunday's game against the Steelers.

Impact Slayton drew the questionable tag for Sunday's game after logging a limited practice Friday due to a new knee issue. The veteran wide receiver -- who signed with the Colts on Sept. 21 -- will have to wait at least one more week to make his debut with his new team, with his next chance to do so being Week 6 against the Titans on Sunday, Oct. 18. Indianapolis could also be without veteran wideout Keenan Allen (groin), which would leave Josh Downs, Laquon Treadwell and Deion Burks as the top wide receivers for Sunday's road contest.

Nursing knee injury, iffy for Week 5 Slayton (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Steelers.

Impact Slayton showed up on Friday's injury report as a limited practice participant, and his new knee injury puts him in jeopardy of missing Sunday's road game in what would be his Colts debut if he was cleared to play. Ashton Dulin (hamstring) has been ruled out and Keenan Allen (groin) is also listed as questionable, which leaves Josh Downs, Laquon Treadwell and Deion Burks as the top, healthy wide receivers on the Colts' roster heading into the weekend.

Not suiting up Week 4 Slayton (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Commanders in London.

Impact Even though the Colts' depth at wide receiver will be tested in Week 4 with Keenan Allen (groin) inactive and Alec Pierce (heel) out for a second straight game while on injured reserve, Slayton apparently needs more time to get acclimated after signing with Indianapolis on Sept. 21. With Slayton being a healthy scratch, the Colts will proceed with Josh Downs, Laquon Treadwell, Ashton Dulin, Deion Burks, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Anthony Gould as their available options at wideout.

Impact Slayton was signed by the Colts on Sept. 21 after being released by the Giants prior to Week 1. He wasn't quite ready to make his Colts debut in Week 3, but with Allen out Sunday and Alec Pierce (heel) on injured reserve, Indianapolis' pass-catching options are thin beyond WR1 Josh Downs and tight end Tyler Warren. Given those injuries, Slayton could have a larger role by necessity against Washington, with Laquon Treadwell, Ashton Dulin and Deion Burks also in the mix for more offensive snaps due to the absences of both Allen and Pierce.

Not available for Week 3 Slayton (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Texans.

Impact Slayton signed with the Colts on Monday, two weeks after being released by the Giants. The move was to bolster Indianapolis' depth at wide receiver due to the absence of Alec Pierce (heel, IR). However, Slayton is not quite ready to make his Colts' debut, and his next opportunity to do so is Week 4 against the Commanders on Sunday, Oct. 4. The Colts will roll with six active wide receivers Sunday in Josh Downs, Keenan Allen, Laquon Treadwell, Deion Burks, Anthony Gould and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.

Linking up with Colts Slayton is set to sign with Indianapolis, Tom Pelissero of Netflix reports.

Impact Slayton spent his first seven seasons with the Giants before he was cut Sept. 7. He posted a 50-770-4 receiving line across 17 regular-season games in 2023 but fell below 600 receiving yards in each of the subsequent two campaigns. The Colts turned to Slayton after No. 1 wideout Alec Pierce was diagnosed with a left heel issue that will sideline him for several weeks. Slayton could thus take on a significant role with his new squad, with Josh Downs, Keenan Allen, Ashton Dulin (ankle), Laquon Treadwell and Deion Burks making up the remainder of Indianapolis' receiving corps.
