Set to play in exhibition finale Jones is expected to play at least the first half of next Sunday's preseason finale against the Patriots, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports.
Impact After working against the Browns in back-to-back practices this past week, coach Joe Judge opted to rest Giants starters this Sunday at Cleveland. With Jones poised to make his debut this exhibition season next weekend, he'll be working with many of his top skill-position players, but questions still surround whether Saquon Barkley (knee) and Kenny Golladay (hamstring) will suit up. In any case, Jones and the rest of the Giants offense soon will have their dress rehearsal for the regular season.

Sitting out second preseason game Giants head coach Joe Judge said Jones won't play in Sunday's preseason game against the Browns, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Jones will remain on the sideline for a second straight week, as the Giants also held him out for rest purposes in the preseason opener against the Jets. Judge was satisfied enough with how Jones looked in joint practices with Cleveland in recent days, so the Giants will have Mike Glennon and Brian Lewerke split the quarterback reps in the second preseason contest.

Won't play vs. Jets Jones won't play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Jets, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Impact Jones figures to be joined on the sideline by a bunch of other starters, as Giants coach Joe Judge said he'll handle the first preseason game the way teams used to handle the last one. That could mean we see Jones in the second and third preseason games, though it's also possible the Giants restrict him to a lone appearance. While the team upgraded its WR room significantly this spring, the offensive line remains a likely weakness.

Herd Hierarchy: Colin Cowherd's top 10 NFL QBs age 25 or younger
Gets more weapons With the Giants trading out of the 11th pick (Justin Fields), it appears they're entirely committed to Jones for this season at least. Moreover, they added another receiver, Kadari...
Impact Jones now has Toney and Kenny Golladay to go along with Darius Slayton, Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram and Saquon Barkley. The offensive line is still a question mark, but the Giants are doing everything they can to surround Jones with playmakers. By passing on Fields, the last of the top QB prospects, the team seems to be all-in on Jones, despite his uneven performance to date.

Daniel Jones faces the pressure to deliver for the New York Giants

With Kenny Golladay now in the mix, is the pressure squarely on Daniel Jones to guide the Giants to an NFC East championship?

Daniel Jones faces the pressure to deliver for the New York Giants
Locked in for 2021 The Giants appear committed to Jones as their starting quarterback for 2021, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan.
Impact A few NFL teams appear ready to give up on first-round QBs they drafted in recent years, but the Giants are expected to stick with Jones, hoping he'll play better if he has more help around him. To that end, the team could stand to add a solid blocker and another reliable pass catcher, in addition to the potential benefit from getting Saquon Barkley (knee) back on the field. While Jones figures to be the Week 1 starter, it is possible he'll be on a shorter leash in 2021, especially if the Giants find a better backup than Colt McCoy.

Efficient in win over Cowboys Jones completed 17 of 25 pass attempts for two touchdowns and one interception while adding 17 yards on nine carries during Sunday's 23-19 win over the Cowboys.
Impact Jones averaged an efficient 9.2 yards per attempt while completing 68 percent of his passes. He threw multiple touchdown passes for the first time in six appearances, connecting with Dante Pettis and Sterling Shepard from 33 and 10 yards out, respectively. Jones finishes the regular season shy of 3,000 passing yards and with a 11:10 TD:INT, but he could find himself playing in the postseason if the Eagles defeat Washington on Sunday night.

Compensating for hampered mobility Jones said Wednesday that until he's fully healthy he "intends to play from the pocket more," Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Jones logged 55 carries for 406 yards through the Giants' first 11 games of the season, but since Week 12 he's had to substantially adjust his playstyle due to hamstring and ankle injuries. In his two appearances since getting nicked up Jones has only rushed once for three yards. An inability to make plays with his legs has likewise limited Jones' ability to attack defenses through the air, with just one passing touchdown in his last two games. Jones was listed on Wednesday's practice report as a full participant, per Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site, and he shed his ankle injury designation entirely, but it appears that he won't be healthy enough to resume scrambling as usual during Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
DECEMBER 30, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Scores once via air in Week 16 loss Jones completed 24 of 41 pass attempts for 252 yards and a touchdown, adding one rush for three yards during Sunday's 27-13 loss to Baltimore.
Impact New York's offensive slump carried into Week 16, as the team was held under 20 points for a fifth consecutive game en route to a third straight loss. Jones proved capable of battling through ankle and hamstring injuries to avoid a third game absence since Week 13, but the sophomore signal-caller remains without a multi-TD passing performance over his past five starts. The quarterback has three such outings all year, while a season high of 279 passing yards caps his upside. Jones does have the ability to produce on the ground, but he's exceeded 20 rushing yards only once in six games since Week 8. To close out the regular season, Jones and the Giants are slated to host the division-rival Cowboys. The QB's practice involvement throughout the upcoming week will merit observation, however, given his recent struggles to stay on the field.

Returning Sunday Jones (ankle/hamstring) is listed as active Sunday in Baltimore, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Impact After sitting out Weeks 13 and 15, Jones will play through a right hamstring injury and a sprained left ankle, as expected. He'll have a tall task on his hands against the Ravens' fourth-ranked scoring defense (20.5 points per game).
DECEMBER 27, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Expected to play Jones (ankle/hamstring) is expected to start Sunday against the Ravens, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact Jones seemed to be trending in this direction considering he was available, albeit in limited fashion, all week during practice. The 23-year-old has played in just one game during the month of December thanks to a lingering dual hamstring and ankle injury, but expect the second-year pro to be available Sunday.
DECEMBER 26, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Questionable for Sunday Jones (ankle/hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Baltimore, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Impact Jones was limited in practice Wednesday through Friday, never quite making it to full participation. Even so, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network both believe Jones is on track to play. The Giants have a 1 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday in Baltimore, with Colt McCoy on hand to make the start if Jones is a surprise inactive.
DECEMBER 25, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Looks on track for Week 16 Head coach Joe Judge said that Jones (ankle/hamstring) is "heading in the right direction," seemingly putting the quarterback on track to start Sunday in the Giants' game against t...
Impact Judge's comments came after Jones practiced on a limited basis for the second straight day Thursday. While Jones was a limited participant all of last week before ultimately being ruled out ahead of the Giants' loss to the Browns, he's been taking the first rep ahead of Colt McCoy in both of the team's practices this week, a sign that the coaching staff believes the 2019 first-rounder is on track to play in Baltimore. The Giants will evaluate Jones at their final Week 16 practice Friday before deciding whether to give the signal-caller an injury designation for the contest.
DECEMBER 25, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Maintains limited practice activity Jones (ankle/hamstring) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Impact Jones split first-team reps with Colt McCoy for the second straight practice, but the second-year signal-caller appears to be in a better spot health wise than he was last week. According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, Jones has been the first quarterback under center in practices Wednesday and Thursday, whereas McCoy took the initial reps last week before getting the starting nod ahead of Sunday's loss to Washington. Unless he turns in full workout Friday, Jones is still likely to be listed as questionable for this weekend's game in Baltimore, but he appears to have an edge over McCoy for the start based on his practice usage thus far.
DECEMBER 24, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Limited to begin Week 16 Jones (ankle/hamstring) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Impact Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News noted that Jones looked notably improved at Wednesday's practice compared to last week, a hint that he could be trending in the right direction for Sunday's road game against the Ravens. The second-year pro has missed two of the last three games, the first due to a right hamstring strain and the second due to a left ankle injury.
DECEMBER 23, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Practicing Wednesday Jones (hamstring/ankle) participated in Wednesday's practice, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Both Raanan and Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News relayed that Jones looked much better this week than last and appeared to be taking his typical pre-injury practice reps. Jones was also spotted sprinting during warmups. His activity level seems to indicate he's trending toward a return Sunday at Baltimore after missing two of the last three games. In the end, though, the Giants will reveal how much work he handled upon the release of Wednesday's practice report.
DECEMBER 23, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Week 16 status TBD Giants head coach Joe Judge said he hopes to have "some kind of an answer" regarding the status of Jones (ankle) for Sunday's game against the Ravens after Friday's practice, Ralph...
Impact The report notes that Judge has gotten "good feedback" on the quarterback from the Giants' trainers, but the coach wants to see how the quarterback looks at practice over the next three days before a decision on his status for the weekend is made. Colt McCoy served as the team's starting signal-caller in the Week 15 loss to the Browns and would be in line to direct the offense again Sunday if Jones can't go.
DECEMBER 23, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Not playing Sunday Jones (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's contest against the Browns, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Impact For the second time in three games, Jones will take a seat due to the combination of a right hamstring injury from Week 12 and a sprained left ankle from last Sunday versus the Cardinals. In his stead, Colt McCoy will direct the Giants offense, with Clayton Thorson serving as the backup quarterback. Jones' next chance to suit up comes next Sunday at Baltimore.
DECEMBER 20, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Unlikely to start Sunday Jones (ankle/hamstring) is not expected to start Sunday night's game against the Browns despite being listed as questionable, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Impact Jones was able to practice in limited fashion all week so it's a bit surprising there's reports already suggesting the second-year quarterback will be unable to play, but considering the Giants won't kick off until 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday, the early warning might help fantasy managers better prepare. It's worth noting Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports Colt McCoy will start, seemingly removing any sort of possibility Jones could make a miraculous turnaround before the prime-time contest, but the Giants have yet to officially make that call.
DECEMBER 19, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Questionable for Sunday Jones (ankle/hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
Impact Jones was a limited practice participant Wednesday through Friday, sharing reps with backup quarterback Colt McCoy. His status could come down to a game-time decision ahead of the 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday, with Jones hoping to fight through a sprained ankle and injured hamstring. He didn't look good in a 26-7 loss to the Cardinals last week, throwing for only 127 yards before he was pulled from the game in the fourth quarter.
DECEMBER 18, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Looks limited at practice Jones (hamstring/ankle) is practicing Friday, but Colt McCoy looks set to receive most of the reps with the first-team offense, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Raanan suggests that Jones will be listed as a limited participant for the third time this week, but it isn't yet clear if he'll be designated as questionable, doubtful or out on the Giants' final Week 15 injury report. Jones missed Week 13 with a right hamstring injury, then sprained his left ankle when he returned to action in last week's loss to the Cardinals. The Giants will release their injury report shortly after Friday's practice concludes.
