Bengals could be without WRs Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins on Sunday against the Patriots

The Bengals could be without their top two receivers, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, in the Sunday opener against the Patriots
SEPTEMBER 7, 2024 • Associated Press
Ja'Marr Chase - Illness added to injury report Chase, who still remains questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots, added an illness to his injury status, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Chase has deployed a "hold-in" strategy off an on throughout training camp due to a contract dispute with the Bengals and suggested in comments Friday he would "decide" whether he can play Sunday. In the same press scrum, Chase also opined there was a remote possibility the two sides could come to an agreement on a massive extension Friday, but with the self-imposed deadline passing without any resolution, it's unclear if the latest injury update is related to the uneasy contract situation or something merely coincidental. Tee Higgins (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for Week 1, so if Chase is unable to play the unheralded duo of Andrei Iosivas and Jermaine Burton will be tasked with a significant workload.
SEPTEMBER 7, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Kendric Pryor - Elevated from practice squad The Bengals promoted Pryor to the active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's regular-season opener against the Patriots.
Impact Pryor spent all of 2023 on the Bengals' practice squad but did not appear in a regular-season NFL game. He'll have that chance Sunday due to Ja'Marr Chase (illness) being listed as questionable and Tee Higgins doubtful due to a hamstring injury.

Bengals vs. Patriots 2024 Prediction, Odds, Picks - Sep 8
Amarius Mims - Missing Week 1 Mims (pectoral) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Patriots, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Impact The 2024 first-round pick logged a DNP on Friday after practicing in a limited capacity both Wednesday and Thursday, so it's no surprise that he won't suit up in Week 1. With Mims sidelined and D'Ante Smith on injured reserve, Cincinnati's only two healthy tackles are Trent Brown and Orlando Brown.
SEPTEMBER 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Ja'Marr Chase - Questionable after full practice Chase (non-injury related/rest) practiced fully Friday but remains listed as questionable for Sunday's contest versus the Patriots, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports...
Impact The ongoing situation between Chase and the Bengals could be closing in on a resolution, as he told Ben Baby of ESPN.com on Friday that there's "a small chance" the two sides may agree to a contract extension, "but who knows what'll happen then, these next couple hours?" Chase also called himself a "game-time decision" for Sunday's season opener and that "it's my decision" whether or not he'll be available. The Bengals are listing fellow wide receiver Tee Higgins (hamstring) as doubtful to play this weekend, so if both players are inactive, WRs Andrei Iosivas and Jermaine Burton, RBs Zack Moss and Chase Brown and TEs Mike Gesicki, Drew Sample and Tanner Hudson will be the top skill-position talent available to QB Joe Burrow.
SEPTEMBER 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Kris Jenkins Jr. - Needs surgery, out for Week 1 Jenkins (thumb) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Impact Jenkins requires surgery to address a thumb issue sustained in practice this week, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports. Coach Zac Taylor said the rookie second-round pick will be evaluated at practice next week, though, so it sounds like Jenkins could be a candidate to play as early as Week 2 versus the Chiefs.
SEPTEMBER 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Tee Higgins - Status in doubt for Week 1 Higgins (hamstring) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game versus the Patriots.
Impact Higgins made an appearance on the Bengals' Week 1 injury report Thursday as limited due to a hamstring issue, which didn't allow him to practice at all Friday, per Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic. Coach Zac Taylor told Geoff Hobson of the team's official site, "We'll see," when asked about the status of Higgins and fellow WR Ja'Mar Chase (non-injury-related/rest) for Sunday's contest. With Higgins unlikely to suit up and Chase listed as questionable, there's a chance QB Joe Burrrow will be without his top two options at the position this weekend. In such a scenario, Andrei Iosivas and rookie Jermaine Burton would be thrust into large roles in Cincinnati's offense.
SEPTEMBER 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Ja'Marr Chase - Questionable for Sunday Chase (non-injury related/rest) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
Impact Chase missed a good portion of training camp and the entire preseason while in the midst of a contract hold-in, and his on-field work has been limited during Week 1 prep as he awaits a resolution. He intimated Friday that he and the Bengals may be close to a new deal, but he also called himself a "game-time decision" for Sunday's contest, per Kevin Patra of NFL.com. Fellow wide receiver Tee Higgins (hamstring) is doubtful to suit up this weekend, so Cincinnati may be without its top two options at the position, which would thrust Andrei Iosivas, rookie Jermaine Burton and others into prominent targets for QB Joe Burrow.
SEPTEMBER 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Ja'Marr Chase - Could be game-time call Chase indicated Friday that a contract resolution may be in reach, while suggesting that he's a game-time decision for Sunday's season opener against the Patriots, Geoff Hobson of...
Impact Look for added context to arrive as the day progresses, but Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer relays that Chase acknowledged that he'd probably be limited if he does play Sunday. For his part, when asked about the Week 1 status of both Chase and Tee Higgins (hamstring), coach Zac Taylor said "we'll see."
SEPTEMBER 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Tee Higgins - Not seen at walk-through Higgins (hamstring) wasn't spotted during the initial stage of Friday's walk-through, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Impact Higgins was added to the Bengals' Week 1 injury report after being limited Thursday by a hamstring issue. Friday's official practice/injury report will provide further context with regard to his status, but either way this is a situation to monitor, especially given the uncertainly surrounding fellow WR Ja'Marr Chase ahead of Sunday's game against the Patriots.

Ja'Marr Chase - Another limited practice Chase (not injury-related/rest) was listed as limited at practice Thursday, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Impact Back-to-back practice appearances, in any capacity, on the part of Chase -- who is seeking a new contract with the Bengals -- are no doubt a positive sign, but according to Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer, at this stage coach Zac Taylor won't confirm whether Chase is expected to play in Sunday's season opener against the Patriots. With that in mind, Conway notes that the Bengals and Chase are taking this "day-to-day" in the hopes of working something out before the end of the week.
SEPTEMBER 5, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Tee Higgins - Shows up on injury report Higgins (hamstring) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Impact Higgins didn't show any notable signs of injury during his post-practice locker room availability, per Dehner, but it looks like a hamstring issue is at least slightly bothering him ahead of Sunday's regular-season opener against the Patriots. Then again, with Ja'Marr Chase still limited amid an ongoing contract dispute, the Bengals could simply be taking a cautious approach to the health of the rest of the wide receiver corps. Rookie third-rounder Jermaine Burton (toe) upgraded to practicing in full after having been limited Wednesday, while quarterback Joe Burrow hasn't had any caps on his reps but has been listed with a right wrist issue.

Sam Hubbard - Avoids injury report Hubbard (knee) was not listed on the Bengals' injury report Wednesday.
Impact Hubbard sustained a knee injury in late July, which kept him out of practice for most of training camp. He went through individual work in late August, and he now appears healthy enough to return to team drills ahead of the Bengals' regular-season opener against the Patriots on Sunday. Across 15 regular-season games in 2023, Hubbard registered 58 tackles (38 solo), including 6.0 sacks and two fumble recoveries.
SEPTEMBER 4, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Joe Burrow - No limitations in practice Burrow (wrist) was a full practice participant Wednesday.
Impact As expected, given that Burrow long ago completed his rehab from last year's wrist surgery and even made an appearance in the preseason. Ja'Marr Chase's return to practice is much bigger news, with the Bengals listing him as a limited participant due to 'rest' after a prolonged run of absences attributed to contract negotiations. There hasn't been confirmation Chase will play this Sunday against the Patriots, but it seems more likely than not.
SEPTEMBER 4, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Jake Browning - Not on injury report Browning (ribs) was absent from the Bengals' injury report Wednesday.
Impact Browning suffered a rib injury in the Bengals' preseason opener against the Buccaneers, which caused him to miss the final two exhibition games. Now healthy, he'll be available to serve as Cincinnati's backup behind Joe Burrow for the regular-season opener against New England on Sept. 8.
