INJURIES

Falls back to four touches Sunday Akers totaled three carries for 19 yards and one catch (on one target) for six yards during Sunday's 30-27 win at Chicago.
Impact Akers has been a part of the Vikings offense in four consecutive contests, but his touch count Sunday was a fewest during that stretch after earning 14 in Week 10 at Jacksonville and 12 last Sunday in Tennessee. The elevated usage for Akers in the previous two games may have been spurred by the rib injury that Aaron Jones suffered in the first of those outings, but the latter racked up 25 touches for 129 yards from scrimmage and a rushing TD in Week 12, indicating he's more or less back to his status as Minnesota's unquestioned top RB. As a result, Akers could be relegated to a distant No. 2 option behind Jones moving forward.
NOVEMBER 25, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Another 12 touches in Week 11 Akers tallied 10 carries for 25 yards and two catches (on two targets) for 11 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 23-13 victory in Tennessee.
Impact Akers now has back-to-back games with double-digit touches, but his yardage tallies in those outings have left fantasy managers wanting (14 for 47 yards from scrimmage Week 10 at Jacksonville, 12 for 36 total yards Week 11). On a positive note, he scored his first TD since Week 5 as a member of the Texans from three yards out late in the third quarter. The Vikings' lead runner Aaron Jones didn't fare much better (16 touches for 43 total yards), which may stem from the rib issue that he sustained against the Jaguars last weekend. In any case, Akers appears as if he's carved out a regular role in Minnesota's offense, at least in the short term.

Gets 13 carries in win Akers has 13 carries for 38 yards and one reception for nine yards in Sunday's win at Jacksonville.
Impact Akers played on 26 of the offense's 84 snaps as he got extra playing time late in the game when Aaron Jones missed time with sore ribs. It sounds like Jones won't miss time with the injury, but he could be limited or the Vikings may want to play it safe with his usage this week at Tennessee. Akers could be set for more work as a result.

Moves into backup RB role Akers had six carries for 46 yards and two receptions for seven yards in Sunday's win over the Colts.
Impact Akers played on 16 of the offense's 73 snaps as he essentially got two series in place of starter Aaron Jones (who had 21 carries for 64 yards and four receptions for 18 yards). Ty Chandler didn't play any snaps on offense as it looks like Akers has overtaken him to be the primary backup running back. It looks like Akers will be the running back who gets some work each game to try to keep Jones fresh.

Working as No. 3 RB Akers is active against Detroit in his first game since being acquired from Houston, Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Impact Meanwhile Miles Gaskin is a healthy inactive for Sunday's game against Detroit. Akers will work as the No. 3 running back, but may not get on the field with Aaron Jones (hamstring) set to play. Ty Chandler will work as Jones' backup.

Vikings acquire RB Cam Akers in trade for 2nd straight year, send late pick to Texans

The Minnesota Vikings have acquired running back Cam Akers in a trade for the second straight year

Vikings trade for running back Cam Akers Akers played for the Vikings last season, and had been a part-time starter for Houston this year.

Traded to Minnesota Akers has been traded to the Vikings along with a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2026 conditional sixth-round pick, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Impact This marks the second straight season Minnesota has traded for Akers. The running back was unable to take advantage of Joe Mixon's absence in the backfield in Houston for three consecutive weeks, totaling 115 yards and one touchdown on 31 carries between Weeks 3 and 5. With Mixon's return, and a crowded depth chart, Akers was expendable for Houston. As a result, he will return to the Vikings, where he played six games and logged 138 yards and one touchdown on 38 carries across six games in the 2023 campaign. He will presumably compete with Myles Gaskin for a depth role behind Aaron Jones (hip) and Ty Chandler.

Loses playing time Week 6 Akers had two carries for minus-1 yards in Sunday's 41-21 win over the Patriots in Week 6.
Impact As expected, Akers' role was significantly impacted by the returns of Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce. Akers was on the field for just two snaps during Houston's final possession.

Impact Pierce's status indicates he could take over as the lead back, a role that Akers filled the last four weeks. The questionable tag for Mixon, the club's No. 1 back, represents an improvement after being ruled out the last four weeks. The potential return for both backs could make Akers inactive, as he was in Week 1, the lone game in which both Mixon and Pierce suited up.

May lose lead back role Week 6 Akers may not be the Texans' lead back Week 6 against the Patriots, if the report from Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston that Dameon Pierce (hamstring) is expected to play holds up ov...
Impact Pierce, who has been sidelined for the last four games, practiced Wednesday in a limited fashion, but head coach DeMeco Ryans was optimistic about the running back's chances to play Sunday. ""He's done a great job with his rehab process and he's back out working, so we're expecting to have him ready to go for the game," Ryans said. Akers and Dare Ogunbowale have shared the backfield snaps with both Pierce and Joe Mixon (ankle) unavailable the last four weeks. Akers has posted modest numbers while scoring a rushing touchdown, a receiving score and several red-zone touches.
OCTOBER 10, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Scores TD while splitting touches Akers rushed nine times for 42 yards and a touchdown while catching two of three targets for five yards in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Bills.
Impact Dare Ogunbowale got the first five touches among Bills running backs, but Akers made the most of his first two opportunities once he checked in, breaking off an 11-yard run immediately followed by a 15-yard touchdown run. Neither Texans running back found much running room after that point, and while Akers finished as the team's leading rusher, he had only 11 touches to Ogunbowale's 21. If the Texans get Joe Mixon (ankle) or Dameon Pierce (hamstring) back against the Patriots in Week 6, Akers and Ogunbowale would likely both see reductions in usage.

OCTOBER 6, 2024 • USATODAY.COM
On track for added work Sunday With Joe Mixon (ankle) and Dameon Pierce (hamstring) inactive, Akers is in line to continue to see an expanded role in Houston's backfield Sunday against the Bills.
Impact While Mixon and Pierce remain sidelined, Akers appears poised to make his third straight start, with Dare Ogunbowale on hand to see change-of-pace work, with J.J. Taylor and British Brooks available to provide the Texans with Week 5 backfield depth. In the team's 24-20 win over the Jaguars last weekend, Akers carried 13 times for 53 yards and was not targeted in the passing game, while Taylor logged six carries for 18 yards and Ogunbowale rushed twice for seven yards and caught all four of his targets for 47 yards and a TD.
