Still not practicing Saturday
Perriman (knee) did not practice Saturday, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Coach Adam Gase previously expected Perriman to return to practice Saturday, so his absence is notable. It doesn't necessarily indicate a setback, and there's no indication that Perriman's regular-season playing time is at any risk, but a player with Perriman's inconsistent history would ideally have a smoother training camp with his new team. The good news in the meantime is that the Jets are so beat up and generally weak at receiver that it's almost impossible for Perriman to end up on the bench anytime soon. In addition to Denzel Mims (hamstring) and Vyncint Smith (core-muscle surgery) already being out, deep bench receivers Jeff Smith and Lawrence Cager had to leave practice Saturday. After Chris Hogan, the only healthy outside Jets receivers at the moment appear to be Josh Malone, George Campbell and Jehu Chesson. Free-agent pickup Donte Moncrief is incoming otherwise.

Should return this weekend
Perriman (knee) is scheduled to return to practice Saturday, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Perriman has been held out of practice the past few days, joining Denzel Mims (hamstring) in the injury/rehab group. The Jets can't afford to take any chances with the banged-up veteran, as they've already had Mims miss the majority of training camp and Vyncint Smith undergo surgery for a core muscle injury. The team badly needs Perriman healthy for a Week 1 matchup with Buffalo.

Misses practice
Perriman (knee) isn't practicing Tuesday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
Impact
Perriman was initially held out Sunday and was seen riding a stationary bike while his teammates practiced. He and Denzel Mims (hamstring) both are out for at least one more day, leaving the Jets extremely thin at wide receiver beyond slot man Jamison Crowder. Assuming his injury is minor, Perriman is well positioned for a steady dose of targets early in the season.

Missing practice with injury
Perriman was held out of Sunday's practice due to an unspecified injury, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Impact
While the Jets haven't provided any specifics on Perriman's issue, Brian Costello of the New York Post relays that the wideout was able to ride on a stationary bike on the side of the practice field, suggesting that his injury isn't overly serious. With Perriman, Denzel Mims (hamstring) and Vyncint Smith (core-muslce injury) ali sitting out practice Sunday, Josh Malone and Jeff Smith stepped in as the first-team wideout alongside slot specialist Jamison Crowder.

Getting compliments from QB
Jets quarterback Sam Darnold said Perriman is "super explosive" and "everything you want in a receiver", Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Impact
Coach Adam Gase also made favorable comments after Wednesday's practice, noting that Darnold and Perriman have been quick to develop chemistry. The Raven-turned-Brown-turned-Buc-turned Jet has been anything but consistent through five NFL seasons, but his best form was also his most recent, and he now finds himself on a team with few other receiving options. So far, it's been Perriman, slot man Jamison Crowder and tight end Chris Herndon serving as Darnold's top targets, while Vyncint Smith (core muscle) just had surgery and Denzel Mims remains absent with a hamstring injury. The only bad news for Perriman is a tricky September schedule with matchups against the Bills (Week 1) and 49ers (Week 2).

Leading candidate for No. 3 role?
Miller may be the favorite to open the season in the No. 3 receiver role, Scott Smith and Carmen Vitali of the team's official website report.
Impact
Both Smith and Vitali cite Miller's experience edge in the offense as the reason why he's likelier than fifth-round pick Tyler Johnson to open the regular season directly under Chris Godwin and Mike Evans on the depth chart. In an offseason devoid of on-field work until late July, it's reasonable to assume Johnson will be somewhat behind the curve in terms of mastering coach Bruce Arians' offense, likely postponing his potential ascension into the third receiver role until later in the season. Miller's 4.3 speed also makes him an X-factor, and both reporters point out it was Breshad Perriman's impressive wheels that kept him in the No. 3 role last season despite his questionable hands.
