Impact Berrios worked as the slot receiver with Jamison Crowder (hamstring) inactive, and he turned into Sam Darnold's de facto top target when both Breshad Perriman (ankle) and Chris Hogan (ribs) joined the ranks of injured Jets wide receivers. The 24-year-old Miami product caught a 30-yard touchdown on the Jets' final drive, finding the end zone for the first time in his career. If Crowder's not ready to return against the Colts in Week 3, Berrios will be a candidate to lead the team in targets.

Impact Crowder was officially ruled out for Week 2 by coach Adam Gase on Friday, and he named Berrios as the replacement in the slot. Berrios rarely saw the field with the Jets last season, catching six passes for 115 yards and zero touchdowns in 16 games, but he should be in line for heavy playing time with Breshad Perriman and Chris Hogan representing the only other healthy wideouts on the roster. Despite the expected increased field time, Berrios isn't guaranteed to be a significant factor in the passing game.

Impact Crowder is trending in the wrong direction for the Week 2 contest, as he failed to participate in practice Thursday after picking up the hamstring injury Wednesday, resulting in him logging a "limited" showing that day. Unless Crowder can get back on the field in some capacity in the Jets' final practice of the week Friday, he'll likely be in store for an inactive status Sunday, leaving New York with just three healthy receivers. Berrios has the benefit of a full season of residence in coach Adam Gase's system, but he rarely saw use as a receiver in 2019, logging only 85 offensive snaps and recording six receptions for 115 yards on 13 targets. While Crowder's potential absence would pave the way for Berrios to handle perhaps the biggest snap share of his career, the 24-year-old might only be a tertiary option in the passing game behind Breshad Perriman, Chris Hogan and Chris Herndon.

Impact Berrios exited practice Tuesday with "tightness", and it's now clear as to the specifics of the injury. It's unclear how long the injury is expected to keep Berrios out, but it certainly won't help his chances to make the roster in a depth role for 2020.

Impact Released by New England last preseason, Berrios caught on with the Jets and played all 16 games, averaging 11.4 yards on 21 punt returns but catching only six passes for 115 yards. He did show some potential in his limited playing time on offense, but there's only so much room for growth for a slot specialist on the same team as Jamison Crowder. Given their potential shortcomings at the outside receiver spots, the Jets could try a few different tricks to put Crowder and Berrios in the slot at the same time, including four-receiver sets or lining up TE Chris Herndon on the perimeter. Even so, it's hard to imagine Berrios pushing for mainstream fantasy utility in any scenario that doesn't involve a Crowder injury.
