Traded to Charlotte
The Magic traded Jones to the Hornets on Wednesday for two second-round picks and cash considerations, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Impact
Per Keith Smith of Spotrac.com, the move puts the Magic under the luxury tax by approximately $1.4 million with two open roster spots. Jones signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Magic in July after spending the prior season with the Suns, but he saw his playing time in Orlando dwindle since starting in seven consecutive games in December. Jones will get a fresh start with the Hornets, where he and fellow newcomer Coby White are expected to provide backcourt depth behind LaMelo Ball and rookie Kon Knueppel.

Dishes out nine assists in win
Jones finished with five points (2-3 FG, 1-1 3Pt), nine assists and one rebound across 19 minutes in Wednesday's 133-124 win over the Heat.
Impact
After being left out of the rotation in Saturday's 119-105 loss to the Cavaliers, Jones has since reclaimed a spot on the Magic's second unit. He handled an 18-minute workload in Monday's loss to Cleveland and saw similar playing time Wednesday on his way to finishing as Orlando's leading assist man. With Franz Wagner experienced renewed soreness in his left ankle and looking likely to miss additional time, Jones could have some staying power in the rotation for the time being. However, Jones will be a prime candidate to see his playing time get cut dramatically once Wagner returns and Orlando is back to full strength.

Left out of rotation Saturday
Jones (coach's decision) went unused off the bench in Saturday's 119-105 loss to the Cavaliers.
Impact
Jones had already played fewer than 20 minutes in each of Orlando's last six games, and with the Magic getting another point guard in Jalen Suggs (knee) back from an eight-game absence and handing him 24 minutes in his return, Jones ended up being the odd man out of the rotation. Orlando will eventually get Franz Wagner (ankle) back in the mix as well, so Jones could face an uphill battle to regain a regular role on the second unit over the second half of the season.

Another dud in win
Jones produced three points (1-2 FG, 1-2 3Pt), two assists and one block across 14 minutes during Sunday's 135-127 win over the Pacers.
Impact
Even with Jalen Suggs (knee) battling yet another injury, Jones just can't seem to get much going in Orlando. Over his last eight games, he's averaging 23.3 minutes per night with 6.0 points, 3.4 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals.

ROTOWIRE
Reverting to bench Wednesday
Jones won't start against the Pacers on Wednesday.
Impact
With Jalen Suggs (hip) back in action, Jones will slide to the second unit. In 25 appearances off the bench this season, the veteran point guard has averaged 2.5 points and 2.1 assists in 14.0 minutes per contest.

ROTOWIRE
Decent line in loss
Jones closed Monday's 107-106 loss to Toronto with 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-6 3Pt), four rebounds, two assists and one steal across 28 minutes.
Impact
With the emergence of Anthony Black this season, Jones hasn't been able to build much momentum in Orlando's backcourt and remains a low-end fantasy asset. Over his last seven appearances, he's averaging 7.3 points, 4.0 assists, 2.4 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.6 three-pointers in 24.1 minutes per contest.

Posts 16 points in starting role
Jones racked up 16 points (6-9 FG, 4-6 3Pt), four rebounds, seven assists and one steal over 35 minutes during Tuesday's 110-106 victory over the Trail Blazers.
Impact
Although Jones' results have been poor as Orlando's replacement floor general, he came through with a season-high seven assists and was effective in the narrow win. His 16 points were only the second time he's logged a double-digit scoring total this season, and although he may have a few more starts in his future, he will likely fail to register a fantasy-worthy total.

Drawing start Thursday
Jones is starting Thursday's game against the Nuggets.
Impact
Jones will draw his second start of the season and his first since Oct. 25 as the team battles through a number of injuries. He's gotten off to a sluggish start to December, averaging 3.5 points and 2.5 assists in 15.0 minutes over six games, but he could be more involved Thursday evening.

ROTOWIRE
Logs four assists in 17 minutes
Jones posted zero points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3Pt), two rebounds and four assists across 17 minutes during Tuesday's 117-108 win over the Heat.
Impact
Jones went scoreless again, marking the 14th time this season, but continued to set his teammates for success. The Magic are currently 8-1 when Jones records at least three assists, and while this stat may be a coincidence, the role Jones plays as the team's backup facilitator is undeniably important.

ROTOWIRE
Dishes six assists in win
Jones had zero points (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt), six assists and one steal over 19 minutes during Monday's 125-120 victory over Chicago.
Impact
Jones has now logged 13 scoreless games this season, and his role backing up Jalen Suggs entering the season has been absorbed by the emergence of Anthony Black. Jones should not currently be under any roster considerations in any fantasy league formats.

Dishes six assists in loss
Jones contributed three points (1-6 FG, 1-4 3Pt), one rebound and six assists over 25 minutes during Sunday's 138-129 loss to the Celtics.
Impact
Jones set season-highs in assists and minutes played Sunday, which is likely due to Jalen Suggs (rest) not playing the second leg of Orlando's back-to-back. With Suggs expected to return Tuesday against Philadelphia, Jones' role will likely be reduced.

ROTOWIRE
Hits two three-pointers in win
Jones registered eight points (3-3 FG, 2-2 3Pt), three assists and one steal over 15 minutes during Tuesday's 121-113 win over Golden State.
Impact
Prior to Tuesday's game, Jones went seven straight without scoring, so it was nice to see him break his elongated shooting slump and go perfect from the field. However, with season averages of 1.9 points on 31.6 percent from the field and 19 percent from three, Jones has a long way to make a stronger case for more playing time.

Muted in loss
Jones recorded two assists in 10 minutes during Sunday's 111-107 loss to the Celtics.
Impact
Jones has not played consistently despite Jalen Suggs managing a knee injury, and has likely ceded minutes to Anthony Black. While Jones will see increased playing time with Suggs out Monday, he has yet to provide a compelling case for more minutes when he is on the court, averaging just 2.0 points, 1.3 assists, 0.9 rebounds, 0.4 steals and 0.2 blocks.

ROTOWIRE
Supplies six points
Jones recorded six points (3-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt), two rebounds and one assist over 15 minutes during Saturday's 125-94 victory over the Wizards.
Impact
Jones didn't post flashy numbers but provided steady, efficient minutes off the bench Saturday. The Duke product, in his first season with the Magic after spending 2024-25 with the Suns, is a proven and reliable presence as the primary backup point guard to Jalen Suggs. While his statistical output and fantasy relevance are limited in this role, the veteran's value as a stabilizing depth piece for Orlando is clear.
