GAME LOG

INJURIES

Strong overall game in loss Hayward posted 17 points (6-14 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 5-5 FT), nine rebounds, six assists and a block over 34 minutes in Friday's 119-112 loss to the Bucks in Orlando.
Impact Hayward was quietly productive throughout the game. And he was robbed of another bucket late when the refs seemed to miss a goaltending call on a Hayward drive late in the fourth quarter. This was Boston's first seeding game in the Orlando bubble and its play was occasionally sloppy. Hayward's 34 minutes and six assists both led the Celtics. With Kemba Walker (knee) on a minutes restriction, Boston will look to Hayward and Marcus Smart to step up their ball-distribution skills.

Leads C's in scoring Smart generated 23 points (7-11 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 6-8 FT), four rebounds, an assist and a steal over 32 minutes in Friday's 119-112 loss to Milwaukee in Orlando.
Impact Smart came off the bench but played starter's minutes, which will probably continue as long as Kemba Walker (knee) is on a minutes restriction. Smart's 23 points led Boston in scoring on a night when Walker played only 19 minutes and Jayson Tatum shot 2-for-18. The versatile Smart also saw a lot of time guarding Giannis Antetokounmpo on the defensive end. Near the end of the game, it looked like Smart briefly forced Giannis to foul out via a charge, until the call was overturned on replay. Look for Smart to continue to play a big role throughout most of these Orlando regular-season games.

Delivers 10 points from bench Smart produced 10 points (5-5 FG), five rebounds and four assists across 23 minutes in Sunday's 117-103 win over the Suns in Orlando.
Impact Smart is much more than a placeholder for Boston's backcourt. He would be a likely starter for a lesser team, and he's demonstrated time and again how capable he is when the Celtics are ailing in their guard corps. He can also play the three depending on the matchup. His fantasy impact can be challenging to predict, but Smart's 32.5 minutes per game pre-coronavirus is a good indicator of his importance to the Celtics.
JULY 26, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Starts in scrimmage for Walker Smart produced eight points (3-8 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three assists and three steals in Friday's Orlando bubble scrimmage loss to Oklahoma City.
Impact Love him or hate him, MAH-cus isn't going to allow 0-4 from behind the arc prevent him from attempting a fifth three-pointer. Smart drew the start at point guard as Boston is resting Kemba Walker and his sore knee. Expect Boston to sit Walker a few times during the Orlando play-in games to make sure he's fresh for the playoffs. That will mean more ball handling responsibilities for Smart, who already averaged 4.8 dimes and 32.5 minutes per game before the sports stoppage.

Celtics eager to find out what they can be entering restart

The Celtics were a team eager to figure out what they could be before the pandemic forced the NBA to pause its season
JULY 23, 2020 • Associated Press
Limited minutes in scrimmage Celtics coach Brad Stevens said Tuesday that he'll limit his stars' minutes during Friday's scrimmage against Oklahoma City, Tim Bontemps of ESPN reports.
Impact Stevens didn't single out Tatum, but it's implied that the third-year wing will be among the players to see limited action in what ultimately amounts to a preseason contest. Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart and Gordon Hayward also figure to play reduced minutes, while Stevens noted that Kemba Walker (knee) will likely sit out Friday's scrimmage altogether.
