Impact Though Smith was elevated to the starting five after two straight quality games in a row off the Indiana bench, he actually saw fewer minutes Tuesday than he had in either of the previous two contests. The downturn in playing time was mostly a byproduct of Smith fouling out of the game, which allowed Terry Taylor (32 minutes) to see more extensive run off the bench. With all of Malcolm Brogdon (Achilles), Chris Duarte (toe) and Isaiah Jackson (ankle) likely to be sidelined Wednesday against the Wizards, Smith could pick up another start, but the 21-year-old could shift back to the bench following the All-Star break.

It seems likely that Smith will move back to the bench once Chris Duarte (toe) is healthy. In his first two games with the Pacers, Smith has averaged 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks.

Impact After putting up 12 points, three boards, one steal and one block in his Pacers debut Friday, Smith popped for one of his best performances of the season. The 2020 first-round pick quickly fell out of favor in Phoenix, but he'll be one of several big men vying for minutes in the Indiana frontcourt with Domantas Sabonis no longer in town. Smith should continue to get increased looks in the Pacers' final two games before the break, though his minutes will likely be sliced once Myles Turner (foot) is back in the lineup.

Impact It's been no secret the Suns have failed to utilize Smith, who was the 10th overall pick in 2020. He's appeared in just 56 games in two years, with averages of 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds in 9.6 minutes. In theory, he has a better chance of seeing minutes with the rebuilding Pacers, but Indiana also has an interest in developing Goga Bitadze, Isaiah Jackson, Oshae Brissett and Terry Taylor.

The second-year big man has logged just two minutes over that three-catch stretch, with Williams instead leaning on JaVale McGee and Bismack Biyombo as the team's options at center. Though Smith previously averaged 15.8 points, 10.2 boards and 1.0 blocks over 25.7 minutes per game during a six-game stretch from Dec. 27 through Jan. 6 while both Ayton and McGee missed time while in the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocols, the 21-year-old wasn't able to parlay his performance into a stable role. Considering the Suns have already declined his third-year team option for the 2022-23 season, Smith is a prime candidate to be dealt ahead of the Feb. 10 trade deadline.
