INJURIES

Logs just 11 minutes in return Hartenstein (Achilles) played 11 minutes and recorded two rebounds and one steal in Thursday's 110-96 win over the 76ers.
Impact The Knicks cleared Hartenstein to play after he had missed the final three games before the All-Star break with left Achilles tendinopathy, but the center appeared to be operating with some restrictions in his return. Hartenstein will likely see his minutes get ramped up in the games to come as he gets further removed from the Achilles injury, but his playing-time ceiling may be lower than it had been prior to getting hurt. In addition to Precious Achiuwa (38 minutes Thursday) starting to earn the trust of head coach Tom Thibodeau while dabbling between the two frontcourt spots, the Knicks also could get Mitchell Robinson (ankle) back in the fold at some point in the next few weeks.

Impact Hartenstein was unavailable for the Knicks' final three games before the All-Star break, but he was listed as probable ahead of Thursday's matchup. He's officially been cleared to suit up, but coach Tom Thibodeau said before the game that Hartenstein will have playing time "guidelines," per Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com. Thibodeau didn't specify that Hartenstein's playing time would be significantly scaled back, but the big man will play in shorter stints as he attempts to ramp up to 100 percent ahead of the playoffs.

FEBRUARY 21, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
On track to play Thursday Hartenstein (Achilles) practiced Wednesday and is on track to play Thursday in Philadelphia, Steve Popper of Newsday reports.
Impact Hartenstein missed the final three games before the All-Star break, but after logging back-to-back practices, he's expected to suit up when New York resumes action Thursday. The big man has been stellar since moving into the starting lineup, averaging 8.3 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks per game over his last 24 appearances (all starts). There are rumblings of Mitchell Robinson (ankle) returning at some point in the regular season, but he hasn't even resumed running yet, so Hartenstein should remain in the starting lineup for the foreseeable future.

Won't return Thursday Hartenstein will not return to Thursday's game due to a sore left Achilles, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Hartenstein appeared to tweak his Achilles during the second quarter of Thursday's game, and he did not come out to the bench for the second half. For now, he should be considered questionable for Saturday's game against the Pacers, and if he can't give it a go, Taj Gibson could get a spot-start.

Operating on minute restriction Hartenstein will be capped at 25 minutes of action during Tuesday's game against Utah, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports.
Impact Hartenstein has logged 16 minutes in back-to-back contests since returning from Achilles soreness. Both games were lopsided affairs in favor of the Knicks, allowing the 25-year-old to not push himself. He could operate in a similar capacity Tuesday, although he appears to be ramping up.
