Derrick White News, Rumors, Updates - Boston Celtics

Expected to play Tuesday White (rest) is expected to play in Tuesday's game against Detroit.

Impact White didn't suit up for Friday's 125-120 preseason overtime win over the 76ers to rest but is expected to play versus the Pistons. The 32-year-old averaged a career-best 16.5 points along with 4.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.1 steals over 34.1 minutes in 77 regular-season games in 2025-26. White did have some trouble finding the net, especially from deep, though he reportedly worked on his shot during the offseason.

Makes impact at both ends of court Wednesday White played 20 minutes in Wednesday's preseason win over the Hornets, scoring 17 points (6-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT) and adding four steals, three rebounds and two assists.

Impact Making his second appearance of the exhibition schedule, the veteran point guard finished second to Jayson Tatum in scoring for Boston while leading a defense that snatched 16 steals in total. White will be looking to improve his efficiency in 2026-27 after shooting a career-worst 39.4 percent from the floor last season, along with a 32.7 percent mark from three-point range that was a steep decline from the prior three campaigns.

Solid outing in blowout win White posted 15 points (5-11 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 26 minutes during Saturday's 144-106 preseason win over the 76ers.

Impact White finished behind Jayson Tatum, Payton Pritchard and Hugo Gonzalez in scoring. However, despite the 32-year-old's scoring contributions, he shot just 20.0 percent from deep, which isn't an encouraging sign after he shot a career-low 27.3 percent from downtown during the 2026 Playoffs. With Jaylen Brown now in Philadelphia, White could see more offensive opportunities than ever in 2026-27, and since he worked on his shot during the offseason, his three-point issues might be behind him.

Importance in Boston grows White could see a slight uptick in offensive responsibility following Boston's acquisition of Paul George in exchange for Jaylen Brown, John Schuhmann of NBA.com reports.

Impact George's ability to space the floor and operate off the ball should fit well alongside White, but Brown's departure leaves behind significant shot creation that White may be asked to help replace. His versatile stat profile already gives him a high fantasy floor, and a modest increase in usage would further boost his value.
