Impact Despite starting for the fifth time in the past six games, Black failed to produce much of note. He has managed to score double-digit points only once all season, adding very little in terms of peripheral stats. Markelle Fultz (knee) has already been ruled out Friday, meaning Black will likely remain in the opening unit. With that said, to this point he has not flashed enough to be considered anything more than a deeper-league stream target.

Impact With Marke Fultz (knee) being a late scratch, Black will replace him in the starting lineup. The rookie guard is averaging 9.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 31.5 minutes across his previous two starts this season.

Impact Making his first career start while Markelle Fultz (knee) was sidelined, Black played turnover-free basketball over his 30 minutes of court time but took on a minuscule 8.2 percent usage rate, the lowest among all nine of the Magic's rotation players on the day. Though his fantasy value will be on the upswing if Fultz misses more time, Black's line from Saturday doesn't inspire much confidence that he'll offer major upside during his rookie season.

The rookie guard has had a limited role to start the season, averaging just 4.7 points, 1.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 8.3 minutes across his first three appearances. However, Black will get the chance to run the offense alongside Jalen Suggs in the backcourt Saturday.

Impact Gary Harris, who started the contest in place of Markelle Fultz (knee), suffered a groin injury in the first half and didn't return. Joe Ingles started the second half in place of Harris, but Cole Anthony and Black were the ones who stepped their production up. If Harris and Fultz remain sidelined, it's possible Black will be able to carve out a 20-minute bench role moving forward.

Impact Black was the sixth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and put together some encouraging performances in Summer League play, but he saw limited minutes during Wednesday's regular-season opener. Despite Black's limited workload, Jalen Suggs and Gary Harris both played under 22 minutes, so it's possible the rookie can carve out a larger role as he adjusts to the NBA level.

Impact Though Black struggled from the field, he came through in crunch time, tipping in Jett Howard's missed three-pointer at the buzzer to push the contest into overtime. He was a dominant force on the glass, finishing with a team-high 14 rebounds while also swatting a pair of shots. Though Black has struggled with efficiency, his ability to contribute as a rebounder and defender will help him contribute for the Magic early on.
