Struggles in Japan Ocon finished 18th in the Japanese Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Suzuka Circuit on Sunday afternoon.

Impact After fetching points in a brilliant Chinese GP performance, things wouldn't go so well this following round in Japan. Ocon failed to advance out of Q1 on Saturday at that would seem to doom him to the back of the pack on the Suzuka Circuit. Staring the race on hard tyres and opting for a long opening stint strategy would not help Ocon move forward. He'd chase Liam Lawson to the checkered flag and fail to catch the young driver coming home a disappointing P18.

Impact The Haas showed much more pace than their disappointing season-opening performance in Australia. Ocon qualified a reasonable 11th on the grid and used that good starting track position well. A lap 11 undercut pitstop allowed him to drive up inside the Top 10 by lap 21. Ocon would continue picking off spots as some teams opted for a second round of pitstops but he would remain out for a huge second stint all the way to the checkers. Post-race disqualifications of both Ferraris would allow Ocon to slide from a P7 finish up to a brilliant P5.

P13 in Season-Opener Ocon finished 13th in the Australian Grand Prix F1 race at Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit on Sunday.

Impact For what the Haas duo lacked in terms of pace they made up for in terms of keeping their cars on the track in challenging conditions and able to deliver a reasonable finish in Australia. Ocon started 19th on the grid and was able to navigate to P15 through the spins and crashes of the opening laps. He would ride there for along while before his first pitstop on lap 39. The switch to slick tyres would be short lived and he would have to put inters back on in a few laps when heavy rain returned. Despite the consecutive stops Ocon would still muster a respectable P13 at the Albert Park Circuit.
