Rehab assignment to begin Friday McKinstry (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Impact McKinstry had his rehab assignment pushed back a few days, but he apparently has made enough progress to move forward towards a return. McKinstry has been out since April 20 with the injury, so he will likely need several plate appearances prior to being activated.

Impact It was previously reported the 26-year-old would begin the rehab stint Sunday or Monday, but apparently things got pushed back a few days. McKinstry has been on the shelf nearly a month with the oblique strain and appears to be on the cusp of rejoining the Dodgers.

Impact A right oblique strain has sidelined McKinstry since April 20. He's nearly ready to begin playing in minor-league games and will join the Dodgers' top minor-league affiliate right away. It's not clear how much time he'll need to shake the rust, but expect McKinstry to have a regular role waiting for him after the 26-year-old impressed with a .296/.328/.556 slash line in 17 games to begin the regular season. He can play second base, third and both corner outfield positions.

Impact Manager Dave Roberts provided an update on McKinstry on Friday, indicating that the utilityman was "able to sneeze and not feel anything." Though that may come across as an odd recovery note, Roberts explained, "When you're talking about the oblique, that's a big deal." A clear timeframe for McKinstry's return has yet to be established, and he'll likely need to get some minor-league at-bats before he's able to rejoin the big club.
