Beginning season in majors McKinstry has earned a spot on the Dodgers' Opening Day roster, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Impact McKinstry saw plenty of chances to prove himself in spring training, and he did enough to make the Opening Day roster as a utility player. He hit .293 with a home run, six RBI and a stolen base in 41 at-bats.

Hopes to fill utility role McKinstry is aiming to break camp with the Dodgers as a utility player, Rowan Kavner of Dodger Insider reports.

Impact With Enrique Hernandez now in Boston, the Dodgers have a need for a utility-type player to fill his shoes. McKinstry primarily played middle infield during his time in the minors, but he has also seen time at third base and all three outfield positions. The 25-year-old slashed .300/.366/.516 with 19 home runs and 78 RBI across two minor-league stops in 2019 and looked good in spring training last year, so he has a legitimate shot at making the Opening Day roster.

Returns to alternate site The Dodgers optioned McKinstry to their alternate training site Monday, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Impact McKinstry's demotion clears a spot on the 28-man active roster for Joc Pederson (personal), who was reinstated from the family medical emergency list ahead of Tuesday's series opener versus the Athletics. The rookie utility man appeared in four games during his stint with the big club, going 2-for-7 with a double and a run scored.

Whiffs in big-league debut McKinstry made his major-league debut against the Padres on Wednesday, striking out in his only plate appearance.

Impact The 25-year-old was called up early Wednesday after Joc Pederson was placed on the family medical emergency list. McKinstry logged his first big-league at-bat as a pinch hitter for Justin Turner in the ninth inning, striking out on five pitches. The Dodgers became the first team to wrap up a playoff spot with the win, so McKinstry may get occasional playing time for as long as he sticks on the roster. However, he's unlikely to see the field often enough to make an impact in fantasy.

Returned to alternate site McKinstry was optioned to the Dodgers' alternate camp site Thursday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Impact The Dodgers needed to trim their roster to 28 and McKinstry was one of two roster casualties. The 25-year-old spent just one day with the big club and didn't make an appearance.
