The Washington Nationals and Milwaukee Brewers meet on Sunday with the winner claiming the three-game series

Luis García - Fills stat sheet in win Garcia went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, three runs scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Brewers.
Impact Garcia doubled and scored in the first inning and hit a solo home run in the third. He then singled, stole second and scored again in the fifth. The second baseman slashed .333/.375/.573 in July and has opened August with two three-hit efforts, a homer and two steals. On the year, he is hitting .287 with 12 long balls and 17 stolen bases across 365 plate appearances.

Kyle Finnegan - Earns 29th save Finnegan earned the save against the Brewers on Saturday, allowing two hits and striking out one over 1.1 scoreless innings.
Impact Finnegan was called upon to protect a 6-2 lead with two outs in the eighth inning and allowed two inherited runs to score before converting the four-out save on 18 pitches. The closer rebounded from a disastrous outing Monday to secure his sixth straight save attempt. He ranks third in the majors with 29 saves and owns a 3.38 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 45:14 K:BB across 45.1 innings.

The rookie was pulled after 77 pitches and has completed six innings just once in 10 starts, but he has yielded two earned runs or fewer in four of his past five outings. Impact The 21-year-old outfielder continues to adjust to big-league pitching. After batting just .200 (16-for-80) through his first 21 games in July, Wood has racked up nine hits in the last six games, including two doubles and a triple, with a 5:7 BB:K. Friday's steal was his first since July 12 and third of the year in the majors on five attempts, after a 10-for-11 showing on the basepaths in 52 games for Triple-A Rochester prior to his promotion. While there are likely still significant growing pains ahead for him, Wood is on track to be a serious power-speed threat as soon as 2025.

Luis García - Swipes 16th bag Garcia went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 8-3 loss to the Brewers.
Impact It was the fourth multi-hit performance for Garcia in his last eight games, while the steal was his 16th of the year in 19 attempts -- a very impressive showing for a player who'd never had more than 12 stolen bases in a season before 2024, even in the minor leagues. The 24-year-old remains prone to some streakiness, but since the beginning of July he's slashing a dazzling .354/.393/.582 over 23 contests with four homers, five steals, 11 runs and 15 RBI.

Jake Irvin - Stumbles against Milwaukee Irvin (8-9) took the loss Friday as the Nationals were downed 8-3 by the Brewers, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out four.
Impact The right-hander did manage to keep the ball in the park after serving up seven homers over his prior four starts, but it was still another mediocre performance from Irvin. While he did toss 72 of his 110 pitches for strikes, his command within the zone remains shaky, and three of the six hits off him went for extra bases. Over his last five outings, Irvin has stumbled to a 6.43 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 21:8 K:BB through 28 innings. He'll try to get back on track in his next start, which lines up to come at home next week against the Giants.
