Ildemaro Vargas - Gaining playing time in infield Vargas will start at second base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Giants.
Impact Though he'll be filling in for a resting Luis Garcia on Wednesday, the switch-hitting Vargas may be in store for at least semi-regular playing time at third base against right-handed pitching in place of Trey Lipscomb, who has produced a .393 OPS since rejoining the big club in early July. Vargas had started over Lipscomb in both of the first two contests of the series, but the Nationals will have room for both players in the infield Wednesday while Garcia rests.

Riley Adams - Filling in for resting Ruiz Adams will start at catcher and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Giants.
Impact For the first time since July 28, Adams will crack the Washington lineup while top backstop Keibert Ruiz gets a day off. So long as Ruiz doesn't show any signs of wearing down from his heavy workload, Adams will likely be in store for limited opportunities moving forward.

Impact Abrams gave the Nationals the lead on a three-run homer in the second inning and added a single in the third. The shortstop has gone just 4-for-23 in five August contests after a rough July, but two of those hits have left the park.
