Lands on IL with strained triceps Peralta was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Sept. 19, with a strained left triceps, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Impact Peralta hadn't pitched in several days because of the injury and now it will put an end to his season. The left-handed reliever was wild for the Yankees this year in walking 30 over 54 frames, but he still posted a 2.83 ERA, struck out 51 and notched four saves. Peralta will be a free agent this offseason.

Dealing with triceps issues Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Peralta is dealing with some "tricep stuff," Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Impact Boone didn't go into much detail regarding Peralta's injury, but it could help explain why the 32-year-old lefty hasn't pitched in nearly a week. A firm return timeline won't be established until more information is provided, but fantasy managers should consider Peralta day-to-day going forward.

Impact Peralta came into Friday with three saves over the past week, but manager Aaron Boone chose to g go him in the eighth with New York clinging to a one-run lead. The southpaw got the job done with a pair of punchouts in a perfect inning, then was replaced by Nick Ramirez in the ninth. Peralta has pitched well this year and should continue to see save chances, but Friday's bullpen usage is a reminder that the Yankees haven't settled on him -- or anyone else -- as their full-time closer.

Impact The Yankees' bullpen got taxed early when Domingo German was ejected ahead of the fourth inning, but Clay Holmes was still saved for the eighth inning and Peralta for the ninth. Michael King, who had thrown 1.1 inning Monday, wasn't used. Peralta has now picked up a save in each of his last three appearances, and at least for now he appears to be manager Aaron Boone's preferred closing option. Holmes has a 10:1 K:BB over the course of a six-game scoreless streak, however, so it may not take much of a stumble from Peralta to drop him back into a setup role.

He issued a two-out walk to Randy Arozarena but retired Brandon Lowe to end the game, marking the left-hander's ninth straight scoreless outing. Peralta is now 2-for-3 in save chances and sports a 1.76 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 17:9 K:BB through 15.1 innings.

Impact Peralta's 14.3 K/9 this spring probably shouldn't be hyped up too much given that the veteran has never averaged a strikeout per inning in any of his seven big-league campaigns. Still, it was a good spring overall for the left-hander, who is coming off a career-best performance last season during which he posted a 2.72 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 47:17 K:BB across 56.1 innings. Peralta is expected to have an important role in the Yankees' bullpen again this season, as he's currently the only lefty reliever slated to be on the Opening Day roster.
