INJURIES

Rough outing against Pirates Velasquez (3-6) allowed five runs on six hits and a walk while striking out one in two innings to take the loss against the Pirates on Friday.
Impact Velasquez recorded his shortest outing since May 21, as he was removed from Friday's game after he gave up three runs in the first inning and two in the second. The right-hander has now been charged with four losses in his last five starts dating back to the start of July, and he's posted a 12.23 ERA and 2.21 WHIP in 17.2 innings during that time. He'll attempt to get back on track in his next start, and he tentatively lines up to take the mound on the road against Washington on Wednesday.

Listed as Friday's starter Velasquez will start Friday against the Pirates, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Impact Velasquez was originally expected to start the second half of Thursday's doubleheader against the Nationals. While he was removed from that assignment, he hasn't been removed from the rotation entirely but will simply start one day later than previously scheduled.

May not start Thursday Velasquez is no longer listed as the scheduled starter for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Nationals, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Impact Velasquez owns a 10.91 ERA and 2.04 WHIP over his last four starts, so it's hard to make the case that he deserves to remain in the rotation. It's unclear if his removal as the scheduled starter means he's being dropped from the rotation entirely or if the Phillies are merely keeping the option available to use him as a reliever during the first game of the day.

Struggles badly against Atlanta Velasquez (3-5) was tagged with the loss Saturday against Atlanta after allowing six runs on five hits and two walks while fanning three across 2.1 innings.
Impact Velasquez couldn't even get out of the third inning and this one will go down as one of his worst starts of the campaign by a wide margin. It was the second time over his last three outings that he couldn't escape the third inning, and in fact, he has now given up five or more runs in three of his last four contests.

Impact Velasquez pitched well enough to win, but Ranger Suarez blew the save in the ninth inning by allowing a two-run home run to Jesus Aguilar. Despite the positive outing Saturday, Velasquez hasn't shown much consistency on the mound lately. He has a 5.00 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 81:42 K:BB across 77.1 innings. The 29-year-old lines up for a home start versus Atlanta during next weekend's four-game series.

Hit hard Friday Velasquez (3-4) took the loss Friday versus Boston. He allowed eight runs on six hits and four walks while striking out two in 2.1 innings.
Impact The right-hander was tagged for three home runs that accounted for half of the hits he allowed. Velasquez has allowed multiple homers in just five of his 18 appearances (14 starts), but two of those instances have been in his last two starts. The 29-year-old has a 5.35 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 77:40 K:BB across 72.1 innings. He'll likely make his next start in next weekend's four-game series versus Miami after the All-Star break.

Charged with third loss Velasquez (3-3) allowed five runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out four in six innings to take the loss against the Padres on Sunday.
Impact Velasquez struggled against the long ball early in Sunday's start, as he gave up home runs to Manny Machado in the first and third innings. While the right-hander settled down across the last three innings of his outing, he was still charged with his third loss of the season. Velasquez had held the Marlins scoreless in his last start, but he's now allowed at least two earned runs in six of his last seven appearances. During that time, he's posted a 6.21 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 33.1 innings. The 29-year-old will attempt to bounce back in his next outing, and he tentatively lines up to start on the road against Boston on Friday.
