INJURIES

Picks up second win Velasquez (2-2) gave up one run on three hits and two walks while striking out two in five innings Friday against the Red Sox. He picked up the win.
Impact He didn't miss many bats in this one, but Velasquez cut his season ERA to 3.97 and still has a respectable 21 strikeouts in 22.2 innings. Lance Lynn (knee) is still at least a couple weeks away from returning, so Velasquez's spot in the rotation should be secure in the short term. He tentatively lines up to face Cleveland next week.
MAY 7, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Set to pitch Friday Velasquez is listed as the probable starter for Friday's game against the Red Sox.
Impact Velasquez is coming off his best start of the season after picking up the win Saturday against the Angels with 5.2 scoreless innings. Overall he has a 4.58 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 19:7 K:BB across 17.2 innings this year.
MAY 6, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Friday's start postponed Velasquez won't start Friday against the Cubs since the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
Impact The game will be made up via a doubleheader on Saturday, and Velasquez will presumably start one of those contests. Saturday's originally scheduled pitcher, Dallas Keuchel, should start the other game of the twin bill.
MAY 6, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Impressive in victory Velasquez (1-2) tossed 5.2 scoreless innings and picked up the win in Saturday's victory over the Angels. He allowed four hits and posted a 6:0 K:BB in the game.
Impact Velasquez was knocked around a bit in his last couple starts, but he was on top of his game Saturday, and he likely would have been out there longer had he not been removed following a lengthy rain delay.

As White Sox struggle out of the gate, is it already time to panic?
Roughed up by Twins Velasquez (0-2) took the loss Saturday, giving up five runs on eight hits and a walk over 3.1 innings as the White Sox were downed 9-2 by the Twins. He struck out six.
Impact Half of the hits off Velasquez went for extra bases, including homers in the fourth inning by Ryan Jeffers and Byron Buxton that chased the right-hander from the game. While Velasquez does have a decent 22.0 percent strikeout rate through three starts, his 6.75 ERA is well-earned thanks to an 11.9 percent walk rate and 2.25 HR/9. Lucas Giolito (abdomen) is due back Sunday, but Velasquez's stint in the rotation may not be over quite yet with Lance Lynn (knee) still out for another month or more.

Struggles in loss Velasquez (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks in 4.2 innings while striking out five in a 9-3 loss Sunday against the Rays.
Impact In the four-run first inning, Velasquez walked in two runs and made an error that allowed another run to score. However, the righty calmed down and at one point retired 10 straight batters. The 29-year-old has six walks over 8.2 innings this season after setting a career high with 4.7 walks per nine innings in 2021. His next scheduled start is Friday in Minnesota.
APRIL 18, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Delivers four strong frames Velasquez allowed one run on two hits and three walks over four innings during Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Mariners. He had two strikeouts and didn't qualify for the decision.
Impact The 29-year-old was targeting four innings for his White Sox debut Tuesday, and he covered exactly that with only 62 pitches. Velasquez surrendered a solo homer to Eugenio Suarez during the second inning but otherwise held down Seattle, though he did have some control issues with three walks. It's a strong start to the season for the right-hander, and he should remain a part of Chicago's starting rotation for the foreseeable future with Lance Lynn (knee) and Lucas Giolito (abdomen) on the injured list.
APRIL 13, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Targeting four innings Velasquez is expected to handle four innings Tuesday against the Mariners, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
Impact Velasquez looked like a depth option when he signed in mid-March but is already needed in the fourth game of the year after injuries to Lance Lynn (knee) and Lucas Giolito (abdomen). He won't pitch long enough to earn the win Tuesday, which further decreases the fantasy appeal of a pitcher with a career 4.95 ERA and a 6.10 mark over the last two seasons.
APRIL 12, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Starting Tuesday Velasquez will start Tuesday's home opener against the Mariners, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Impact Velasquez joined the White Sox in mid-March and will begin the regular season as part of the starting rotation. He made 25 appearances (21 starts) between the Phillies and Padres last year and posted a 6.30 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 94.1 innings.

White Sox officially announce signing of pitchers Joe Kelly and Vince Velasquez The Sox add more bullpen depth with Kelly’s signing.
MARCH 14, 2022 • SUNTIMES.COM
Joining White Sox Velasquez agreed to a contract with the White Sox on Sunday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Impact The specific terms of the deal remain unclear, though James Fegan of The Athletic reports it's a major-league contract. Velasquez had the worst season of his big-league career between the Phillies and Padres in 2021, as he had a 6.30 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 101:49 K:BB over 94.1 innings. The veteran right-hander may have a tough time cracking the White Sox's starting rotation to open the season, and he's more likely to serve as a depth and bullpen option.

Suffers ninth loss Velasquez (3-9) took the loss during Thursday's 8-3 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
Impact All four runs Velasquez surrendered came on solo homers in two back-to-back sets, a pair in the first inning and another two in the fourth. The 29-year-old has always shown strikeout upside -- he had seven Thursday -- but has now permitted multiple runs in each of his four appearances with San Diego that total only 12.2 innings.

Throws just one inning Wednesday Velasquez (3-8) allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk while striking out two over an inning's work as he took the loss against the Giants and Wednesday.
Impact Velasquez loaded the bases after three of the first four batters he faced reached and then surrendered a bases-clearing double to Kris Bryant to give the Giants an early 3-0 advantage. He would retire the next two batters to conclude the frame, ending his day at 37 pitches. The Padres will likely have to continue using Velasquez in an opener role with so many of their rotation arms injured. The 29-year-old owns a 6.23 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 91:46 K:BB over 86.2 innings.

Takes loss in Padres debut Velasquez (3-7) suffered the loss against St. Louis on Friday, allowing four runs on four hits and no walks while striking out four over four innings.
Impact The veteran hurler was called up to the big club earlier Friday after signing with San Diego on Wednesday. He gave up three runs -- including two on a Tyler O'Neill home run -- in his first inning of work and served up a solo shot to Dylan Carlson in the fourth. There was some rust to be expected as Velasquez's start was his first in the majors since July 30, but it was nonetheless a disappointing debut given San Diego's slipping grasp on a playoff spot. Velasquez figures to get another start with Blake Snell (groin) currently on the injured list, and he's lined up to face San Francisco at home next week.
SEPTEMBER 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Recalled to start Friday Velasquez was selected from Triple-A El Paso to start Friday's game against the Cardinals.
Impact San Diego signed Velasquez to a minor-league deal on Wednesday and it was later reported that he would be added to the major-league roster to start Friday. The right-hander will temporarily take Blake Snell's (groin) rotation spot, though it's unclear how many starts he'll ultimately make during the final weeks of the season. Velasquez posted a 5.95 ERA and 1.48 WHIP across 81.2 innings with the Phillies before being released earlier this week.
