Sloppy work Monday
Wells allowed a run on three hits and a walk and recorded his only out via strikeout in Monday's 8-3 loss to Minnesota.
Impact
Wells didn't make the mess -- Tanner Scott and Cesar Valdez each struggled prior to the right-hander's entry into the game. Nonetheless, Wells allowed an inherited runner to score and then had to work out of a bases-loaded jam after allowing another run that was charged to him. The 26-year-old remains a candidate for low-leverage work with a 5.48 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 27:8 K:BB across 21.1 innings this year. Prior to Monday, he had logged 10 straight outings of more than one inning.

Logs two scoreless innings
Wells pitched two scoreless innings with one walk and no strikeouts in Wednesday's 7-1 loss to the Mets.
Impact
Wells entered in the seventh inning of a lopsided game, but he kept it from getting any worse. The 26-year-old has a 5.40 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 15:6 K:BB across 15 innings in nine appearances. This was just the third time this season Wells has kept runs off the board -- he's likely to continue in a low-leverage role.

Hit hard in relief outing
Wells allowed three runs on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts in two innings of Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Athletics.
Impact
Saturday was a bullpen day for the Orioles, and Wells took over in the second inning after Wade LeBlanc was ineffective through 1.2 innings. In the fourth, Wells was taken deep by A's infielder Jed Lowrie for a three-run home run. The 26-year-old Wells has a 7.04 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB across 7.2 innings this season. He's likely to be limited to low-leverage assignments.

Allows run in relief outing
Wells gave up one run on a hit and a walk and struck out one in the seventh inning of Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Yankees.
Impact
Wells walked Brett Gardner and then allowed an RBI double to Giancarlo Stanton for the Yankees' fourth run of the game. The 26-year-old Wells had a clean outing against the Red Sox on Sunday. As a Rule 5 pick, the right-hander has to stay on the Orioles' roster all season for them to maintain his playing rights. He's expected to work in middle relief in 2021, although he could play his way into high-leverage assignments.

Wins roster spot
Wells will break camp in the Orioles' bullpen, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Impact
As a Rule 5 pick, Wells has to be kept on the roster all season or offered back to the Twins. He appears to have won his roster spot by merit, however, as he struck out 12 batters and walking just three in nine innings this spring, allowing one run on six hits.

Snagged by O's
The Orioles selected Wells with the 17th pick of the Rule 5 draft.
Impact
Wells underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2019, so he should be fully healthy at this point. The 26-year-old righty logged a 1.65 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 39 strikeouts in 32.2 innings at Double-A back in 2018. Baltimore will likely deploy the former Twin as a low-leverage reliever.
