Red Sox aim to stop skid in matchup with the Rockies

Moving back into rotation Blach is expected to start Tuesday against the Red Sox in place of the injured German Marquez (elbow), Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Impact Blach will be available in relief Monday, if needed, but the Rockies hope to be able to hold him back for Tuesday's start. The left-hander has split his time between the rotation and bullpen this season, collecting a 5.46 ERA and 32:13 K:BB over 59.1 innings covering 16 appearances (nine starts). Blach hasn't thrown more than 39 pitches in an outing in more than a month, so he won't be fully stretched out Tuesday.

Sharp in second win Blach (2-2) earned the win over the Guardians on Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out five.

Impact Th lefty got touched for two runs in the first inning, but was fortunate to receive plenty of run support early after the Rockies got to Logan Allen for seven runs over the first two frames. Blach would not allow another run after the first and produced three 1-2-3 innings en route to posting his second win of the season. He struck out a season-high five batters in the contest while also going seven innings for the first time in the campaign. He's now logged back-to-back quality starts and has won two of his last three decisions (spanning four outings).

Impact Blach will pick up his second start of the season as he joins the rotation as a replacement for Peter Lambert, who was recently moved to the bullpen. Impact Per Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com, the Rockies are likely to treat Wednesday's contest as a bullpen day, as Blach tossed an inning of relief Monday and may not be ready to handle a typical starter's workload just two days later. Prior to getting a call-up from Triple-A Albuquerque last weekend, Blach had made four starts for the Rockies' top affiliate, logging a 3.45 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB in 15.2 innings. Blach will presumably be in line for just one start before moving back to the bullpen after Wednesday's game.
