Back with Cubs on minors deal The Cubs re-signed Blach to a minor-league contract Wednesday.
Impact Blach elected free agency earlier this week after being removed from the Cubs' 40-man roster, but he's now back in the organization on a new contract. The lefty threw three scoreless frames in his lone appearance for Chicago and will give the organization swingman depth at Triple-A Iowa.

Reaches free agency Blach elected to become a free agent Monday.
Impact Blach had been removed from the Cubs' 40-man roster and will test out free agency rather than accept an outright assignment. The lefty could wind up re-signing on a minor-league deal, but he will have the ability to negotiate with all teams.

Cubs reinstate left-handed reliever Caleb Thielbar, designate Ty Blach for assignment

The Chicago Cubs reinstated left-handed reliever Caleb Thielbar from the 15-day injured list before Tuesday’s 5-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, giving their depleted bullpen a boo...

DFA'd by Cubs The Cubs designated Blach for assignment Tuesday.
Impact Blach spun three scoreless innings out of the Cubs' bullpen Monday against the Brewers in his lone appearance for the club, and his reward is being jettisoned from the 26-man and 40-man rosters. The lefty will likely clear waivers, and if that happens, he would have the ability to decline an outright assignment and become a free agent.

Effective in team debut Blach tossed three scoreless innings of relief in Monday's 9-3 loss to the Brewers. He allowed one hit and struck out two.
Impact Blach had his contract selected from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, and he made his team debut a day later. The lefty, who last appeared in the majors for Colorado back in 2024, looked good, albeit in a low-leverage spot with the Cubs already down six runs when he entered the contest. Blach replaced Javier Assad on the roster for now, though the latter could be back in short order after a stint in Iowa.
MAY 19 • ROTOWIRE
Added to big-league bullpen The Cubs selected Blach's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday.
Impact Blach joined the organization on a minor-league deal in mid-April and has gotten into five games (three starts) for Iowa, posting a 5.23 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 14:7 K:BB over 20.2 innings. He'll likely work in long relief out of the bullpen with the big-league club but also offers rotation depth given that's he's spent most of his career as a starter. To make room for Blach on the 40-man roster, reliever Hunter Harvey (triceps) was moved to the 60-day IL, while Javier Assad was optioned to Triple-A to clear a spot on the 26-man roster.

Lands MiLB deal with Cubs Blach agreed to a minor-league deal with the Cubs on Tuesday, Tommy Birch of The Des Moines Register reports.
Impact Blach had been a free agent since the end of last season, so he could head to the Cubs' spring training facility in Arizona to build up his pitch count before eventually reporting to Triple-A Iowa, where he'll likely slot into the rotation. The soft-tossing lefty has seen big-league action in parts of seven seasons across stops with the Giants, Orioles and Rockies, but he spent the entire 2025 campaign in the minors as a member of the Rangers organization. Over his 11 starts for Triple-A Round Rock, Blach compiled a 3.88 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 40:13 K:BB in 51 innings.

Gets MiLB pact from Rangers The Rangers signed Blach to a minor-league contract Friday.
Impact Blach has been assigned to the Rangers' Arizona Complex League affiliate for now but should eventually moved up to Triple-A Round Rock. The left-hander made 12 starts and eight relief appearances for the Rockies last season, posting a 6.94 ERA and 36:18 K:BB over 71.1 frames.
MAY 2, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Sticks in organization Blach cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.
Impact The left-hander was designated for assignment by Colorado over the weekend but will stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Blach has made 20 appearances (12 starts) for the Rockies this season and has a 6.94 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 36:18 K:BB in 71.1 innings.
SEPTEMBER 10, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
DFA'd by Colorado The Rockies designated Blach for assignment Sunday.
Impact Blach was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sept. 1 after Cal Quantrill (tricep) was placed on the 15-day injured list. Blach took the loss in both of his starts since his call-up, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits and two walks while striking out two over 7.2 innings. Blach was serving as a placeholder in the Rockies' rotation, and with Antonio Senzatela (elbow) nearing his return from the 60-day IL, there doesn't appear to be any room on the 40-man roster for the former. Right-hander Victor Vodnik (biceps) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Adames, Sánchez hit back-to-back homers in 1st inning as Brewers defeat Rockies 5-2

Willy Adames and Gary Sánchez hit back-to-back homers in the first inning
SEPTEMBER 8, 2024 • Associated Press
Tagged with eighth loss Blach (3-8) allowed five runs on six hits over 3.2 innings Saturday, he struck out one and took the loss against Milwaukee.
Impact Blach fell victim to the long ball tying a career high with three home runs allowed vs the Brewers on Saturday. He allowed back-to-back homers to Willy Adames and Gary Sanchez in the first inning, then a two-run blast to William Contreras in the third. Blach was given a second straight start since being called up on September 1, but he's been lit up for five runs in each of those appearances. The 33-year-old has a 6.94 ERA through 71.1 innings this season.
SEPTEMBER 8, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Drawing second straight start Blach is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
Impact The veteran southpaw will pick up a second straight turn through the rotation after he yielded five earned runs on five hits and two walks over four innings last Sunday versus the Orioles in his return from Triple-A Albuquerque. Blach is likely just a placeholder in the rotation until the Rockies get Antonio Senzatela (elbow) back from the 60-day injured list, perhaps as soon as next week.

Brewers host the Rockies on home losing streak

Coughs up five runs Blach (3-7) yielded five runs on five hits and two walks over four innings Sunday, striking out one and taking a loss against Baltimore.
Impact Blach was promoted from Triple-A Albuquerque for his first MLB appearance since July 26. He gave up one run through three innings before Baltimore's four-run fourth frame, capped off by James McCann's two-run blast. Blach now owns a 6.65 ERA with a 35:18 K:BB through 67.2 innings with Colorado this season. He's currently scheduled to start in Milwaukee next weekend but it's unclear if he'll get another turn in the rotation.
SEPTEMBER 2, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Called up ahead of start The Rockies selected Blach's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque ahead of his scheduled start Sunday against the Orioles.
Impact Colorado placed right-hander Cal Quantrill (tricep) on the 15-day injured list to open up room on the 28-man active roster and in the rotation for Blach. The soft-tossing southpaw has previously made 18 appearances (10 starts) for Colorado this season, pitching to a 3-6 record with a 6.36 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 34:16 K:BB in 63.2 innings.
SEPTEMBER 1, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Starting Sunday vs. Baltimore Blach will be recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque and draw the start in Sunday's series finale against the Orioles, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.
Impact Blach will take the spot of Cal Quantrill, who was scratched from his scheduled start due to right triceps inflammation. Blach was DFA'd by Colorado in late July after posting a 6.36 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across 63.2 innings, but he opted to stay within the organization at the Triple-A level rather than enter free agency. He'll now rejoin the big club and could stick around in the rotation if Quantrill misses extended time.

Goes unclaimed off waivers The Rockies outrighted Blach to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday after he cleared waivers.
Impact Blach had the option of electing free agency, but he'll instead stick around in the Colorado organization, with whom he's spent the past two-plus seasons. Before being cast off the Rockies' 40-man roster July 27, Blach made 18 appearances (10 starts) for the big club, posting a 6.36 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across 63.2 innings.
AUGUST 5, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Departs 40-man roster Colorado designated Blach for assignment Saturday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact After moving back into the rotation and giving up six earned runs over 2.1 innings in a loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday, Blach shifted to the bullpen for the Rockies' series in San Francisco this weekend. He came on in relief in Friday's 11-4 loss, surrendering three more runs over two innings to bring his ERA to 6.36 over 63.2 frames on the season. He'll cede his spot on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster to right-hander John Curtiss, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Albuquerque. If Blach goes unclaimed on waivers, he'll likely remain in the Rockies organization as pitching depth at Albuquerque.

Departs 40-man roster Colorado designated Blach for assignment Saturday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact Blach has surrendered nine runs and three homers in his last 4.1 innings of action for the Rockies, raising his ERA to 6.36 on the year. He'll hand over his spot on the 40-man and 26-man roster to John Curtiss. If Blach goes unclaimed on waivers, he'll likely remain in the Rockies' organization.

O'Neill's 2 HRs, Criswell's 7 shutout innings lead Red Sox over Rockies, 6-0

Tyler O’Neill homered twice, Cooper Criswell tossed seven shutout innings, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Colorado Rockies 6-0 to snap a four-game skid
JULY 24, 2024 • Associated Press
Hit hard in loss Blach (3-6) allowed six runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out one over 2.1 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Red Sox.
Impact Blach actually ended up pitching the least of the three Rockies who took the hill Tuesday, as his return to the rotation was greeted by Boston's bats. Tyler O'Neill did most of the damage with two home runs. Blach threw 59 pitches (38 strikes) in this outing and may continue to stretch out if he remains in the rotation going forward. He has a 6.13 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB through 61.2 innings over 17 appearances (10 starts) this year, finding minimal success regardless of if he's starting or working out of the bullpen.
