Allows four in loss McKenzie (5-9) allowed four runs on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts through four innings, taking the loss in Saturday's 7-2 defeat to the Rangers.
Impact McKenzie battled his command Saturday, issuing the most walks he's allowed since June 12 and finding the zone with just 54 percent of his pitches. All of his runs came via the long ball too, with Willie Calhoun going yard for a solo shot in the first before Jonah Heim smacked a three-run shot in the fourth. McKenzie showed a ton of growth this season, but simply ran out of gas down the stretch. After being virtually unhittable through August and into September (1.76 ERA, 48:5 K:BB through seven starts), the lanky right-hander had a brutal 11.81 ERA and 9:8 K:BB in his last three outings. Still, at just 24 years old, McKenzie has oodles of upside and projects to grow into a more-than-serviceable rotation piece for Cleveland over the next few seasons.

Chased in third inning McKenzie (5-8) allowed three runs on five hits and three walks over 2.1 innings Sunday, striking out three and taking a loss against the White Sox.
Impact McKenzie allowed a run in the first inning but really stumbled in the third. The first five White Sox batters of that inning reached base, including Eloy Jimenez, who drove in two runs with a single. After a seven-start stretch as one of the hottest pitchers in the league, the rookie has been crushed for 10 runs over 6.2 frames in his last two appearances. McKenzie now owns a 4.81 ERA and 134:54 KBB through 116 innings. He's tentatively lined up to face the Rangers on the road next weekend.

The young right-hander has a 1.76 ERA, 0.54 WHIP and 48:5 K:BB through 46 innings over that stretch, a remarkable turnaround considering he sported a 6.11 ERA and 1.44 WHIP at the end of July, and he is positioning himself for a key role in Cleveland's 2022 rotation.

Impact McKenzie deserved a better fate Wednesday, but Minnesota starter Joe Ryan took a perfect game into the seventh inning and Cleveland ended the contest with just one hit allowed. Even with the Twins' rookie hogging the spotlight, McKenzie deserves major plaudits for what has been an incredible pace of late. In his last four starts, the lanky right-hander has a K:BB of 32:3 and an ERA of 1.00 over 27 innings. His situation with regard to run support is sub-optimal, but McKenzie is certainly holding up his end of the bargain.
