Dominant against Astros McKenzie (3-3) picked up the win Monday after he tossed seven innings, surrendering one run on three hits and a walk while striking out six versus the Astros.
Impact McKenzie dominated in this one, firing six scoreless innings before Alex Bregman took him deep for a solo shot in the seventh frame, providing the only blemish on his line. It was the second straight outing that the right-hander pitched seven innings and his fourth consecutive quality start. The streak of dominant outings has lowered his ERA from 3.71 to 2.70 while his WHIP has shrunk to a very impressive 0.90 over 43.1 innings in eight starts in 2022. McKenzie will look to continue his hot streak in his next start, which tentatively lines up to be Saturday against the Tigers.

Impact McKenzie coughed up an RBI single to Max Kepler in the first inning followed by a pair of solo homers from Gio Urshela and Byron Buxton in the fourth and fifth frames, respectively. Prior to Sunday's outing, he had given up just one home run through 29.1 innings this season. The 24-year-old now owns a 2.97 ERA with a 34:11 K:BB on the year. Impact McKenzie showed signs of dominance in his third outing of the season, as he allowed only one hit and and generated a strikeout per inning. However, he was done in by his inefficiency, as only half of his 80 pitches found the strike zone. That led to four walks, though he had only issued a pair of free passes across seven frames entering Wednesday's appearance. Assuming McKenzie can throw strikes more consistently in his next start -- currently scheduled for Tuesday against the Angels -- he should be able to work a bit deeper into the game.
