Hit hard by Twins McKenzie allowed six runs on nine hits and a walk with five strikeouts in 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Twins on Wednesday.
Impact McKenzie posted his shortest start since April in this one, with the nine hits he allowed marking a season high. He also allowed multiple homers (three) for the fourth time in his last five starts, though the Guardians' offense was able to bail him out. The 24-year-old's poor start pushed his ERA to 3.51 with a 1.01 WHIP and 66:20 K:BB through 74.1 innings overall. McKenzie will look to get back into form next week with a home rematch against the Twins.

Impact McKenzie allowed a single and double to the first two batters he faced, but he escaped the jam without allowing a run. The only damage against him came in the fifth inning, when he allowed a leadoff triple. Otherwise, McKenzie had an impressive outing -- particularly given that he was pitching in Coors Field -- highlighted by 16 swinging strikes on 93 total pitches. He has now allowed two earned runs or fewer while working six or more innings in four of his last five turns through the rotation.

Impact The right-hander didn't allow much traffic on the basepaths, but all three of the hits off him left the yard, including a three-run blast by Austin Hays in the third inning. McKenzie served up only one homer over his first six starts this year, but as the weather has warmed up he's had trouble keeping the ball in the yard, getting tagged for eight long balls in his last four outings. Despite those stumbles, the 24-year-old will still take a 3.10 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 49:16 K:BB through 58 innings into his next start.
