Impact Rogers was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday after experiencing lower-back muscle spasms, but per Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com, manager Don Mattingly expressed optimism that he'll be ready to be activated after the minimum 10 days. The Marlins have made it known that they intend to monitor the workloads of their young pitchers carefully in the second half, so Rogers could still be a candidate to have some of his starts skipped or have his innings restricted over the final two months of the season even if he stays healthy.

Impact The lefty must have suffered the injury during Tuesday's start when he wasn't exceptionally sharp, walking three batters and allowing two runs in five innings. It's unclear how long Rogers will be sidelined with the back spasms. Braxton Garrett was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move.

Escapes with no-decision Rogers didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Nationals after tossing five innings of two-run ball, allowing five hits and three walks while fanning three.

Impact Rogers has been the best pitcher on the Marlins staff by a wide margin, but he didn't have his best stuff in this one. The left-hander, who continues to rack up innings and has now thrown a career-high 106.1 innings in 2021, has gone winless in his last six starts and there's a possibility that fatigue might be catching up to him. He owns a 3.52 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP and a strong 10.6 K/9 in that six-game span, though. His next start is slated for the weekend series at home against the Padres.

Impact Rogers has been the Marlins' top pitcher this season, but because he tossed 18 pitches in Tuesday's All-Star Game and since the organization has a desire to monitor his innings count, he won't take the hill until Miami's sixth game of the second half. With the 23-year-old having already racked up 101.1 innings in 2021 -- up from 28 innings during the pandemic-delayed 2020 campaign -- Rogers could be a candidate to get shut down in September or have starts skipped periodically over the final two months of the season.
