Yastrzemski and Chapman homers help Giants rally past the Brewers 6-5

Mike Yastrzemski and Matt Chapman homered as the San Francisco Giants rallied to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 on Thursday to take three of four games in the series

Converts second save Megill recorded the final two outs to earn the save in Friday's 5-3 win over the Athletics.
Impact Bryan Hudson began the ninth inning but allowed three of the first four batters to reach base. Megill allowed an inherited runner to score on a sacrifice fly before inducing a groundout from Shea Langeliers to end the threat. This was Megill's second save in three chances this season, though his last opportunity ended in disaster when he blew a save versus the Diamondbacks last Saturday. Megill is now at a 4.26 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB over 6.1 innings this season. He has a loose grip on the closer job for the Brewers, especially if an injury to his knee flares up again.

Christian Yelich drives in 3 runs in Brewers' 5-3 win over Athletics

Christian Yelich drove in three runs and Caleb Durbin had two hits in his major league debut to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-3 victory over the Athletics

Available to pitch Megill (knee) was available to pitch Sunday versus the Diamondbacks and Monday against the Tigers, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact Megill imploded Saturday in Arizona and it was revealed that he had recently undergone an MRI on his knee and would be seeking a second opinion. Evidently, he has checked out well enough to pitch. Megill had pitched well prior to struggling in his last appearance and remains at the top of the Brewers' bullpen hierarchy. However, he's a bit of a health red flag right now.

Getting knee scans evaluated Megill is set to receive a second opinion on his knee this week after recently undergoing an MRI, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact Though he got his knee checked out, Megill wasn't shut down after the MRI came back clean. He proceeded to pitch in both of the Brewers' first two games of their series in Arizona this weekend. Though he struck out two and allowing one walk in a scoreless inning in Friday's 7-0 win, Megill unraveled in Saturday's 5-4 loss, blowing a save chance and recording just one out while giving up three earned runs on two hits and three walks. After the disastrous performance, Megill is getting checked out again as a precaution, but the right-hander didn't use the injury as an excuse for the blown save while speaking to the media Sunday. He'll presumably remain available for Sunday's series finale, though the Brewers will probably look to stay away from him after he tossed 37 pitches over the past two days.

Underwent MRI on knee Megill recently underwent an MRI on his knee, but it came back clean, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact Megill pitched in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks but allowed two hits, three walks and three earned runs while recording just one out in the bottom of the ninth inning before taking the loss. He hadn't been scored upon in his first five outings of the season prior to Saturday's disaster. For now, Megill has been cleared to pitch, but it's something worth monitoring in the near future.

Implodes in loss Megill (0-1) took the loss and a blown save in Saturday's 5-4 defeat against the Diamondbacks. He allowed three runs on two hits and three walks in one-third of an inning.
Impact Megill only managed to record one out, which came on Lourdes Gurriel's game-winning sacrifice fly, after he allowed five consecutive batters to reach safely. Megill hadn't allowed a run in 4.1 innings prior to Saturday, giving up just two hits and one walk while striking out eight in that span. Despite the rough outing, the 31-year-old Megill figures to remain the primary ninth-inning option for the Brewers.

Locks down first save of 2025 Megill gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his first save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Reds.
Impact Getting his fist save chance of 2025, Megill looked amped up when he struck out Gavin Lux, the first batter he faced, on three pitches. With Devin Williams now a Yankee, Megill is set to be the main man in the Brewers' bullpen -- a role in which he amassed 21 saves last season while the Airbender was sidelined with back trouble. Through his first 3.1 innings this year, Megill has a 0.00 ERA and 6:0 K:BB.

Back in action Monday Megill will appear in Monday's Cactus League game versus the Rockies after pitching in minor-league games since mid-March, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact Megill's last Cactus League outing came March 15, but his absence doesn't appear to be the result of the undisclosed injury he dealt with earlier in camp. He's expected to open the season as the Brewers' primary closer.

NL Central Preview: Brewers looking to hold off Cubs and Reds at top of division

MARCH 17, 2025 • Associated Press
Makes spring debut Megill (undisclosed) made his Cactus League debut in Friday's 9-2 loss to the Giants, striking out a batter and giving up one run on one hit in one inning of relief.
Impact An unspecified injury kept Megill behind schedule compared to the team's other healthy relievers early on in camp, but now that he's made his spring debut, the 31-year-old right-hander looks like he'll be ready to go for the start of the season. He surrendered a solo home run to the first batter he faced (LaMonte Wade) on Friday, but Megill bounced back well, inducing a pair of groundouts before striking out Matt Chapman to close out the third inning. With Milwaukee trading away Devin Williams in the offseason, Megill appears to be the leading candidate to serve as the Brewers' closer in 2025.
MARCH 2, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Delayed by undisclosed injury Megill has been pushed back at the outset of spring training due to some minor health issues in recent throwing sessions, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Impact Manager Pat Murphy said Megill seems "fine", per McCalvy, but he's dealing with something that is preventing him from ramping up on a normal schedule this spring. This could end up being nothing, but it could also snowball into being a real issue, so fantasy managers should view Megill as a higher-risk option than he was prior to pitchers and catchers reporting. Abner Uribe (knee) is being brought along slowly, so 30-year-old Joel Payamps may be best suited to step up in the ninth inning if Megill is unable to get up to speed by Opening Day.
FEBRUARY 13, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Reaches deal for 2025 Megill agreed to a one-year, $1.94 million contract with the Brewers on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Impact The 31-year-old was in his first year of arbitration eligibility and should enter spring training as the favorite for saves after the Brewers traded closer Devin Williams to the Yankees last month. Megill tallied 21 saves and six holds with a 2.72 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 50:14 K:BB across a career-high 46.1 MLB innings.
JANUARY 9, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Leading candidate for saves Megill is a top candidate to pick up saves after Devin Williams was traded to the Yankees on Friday, Brian Murphy of MLB.com reports.
Impact Megill served as Milwaukee's primary closer for much of 2024 due to a long stint on the injured list for Williams. He had an excellent season, converting 21 of 24 save opportunities while maintaining a 2.72 ERA and 1.01 WHIP to go along with a 50:14 K:BB, which seems to set him up well to return to the role. Murphy also mentioned Abner Uribe (knee), who began the season as the primary ninth-inning option, as a candidate for saves.
DECEMBER 15, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Collects 21st save Megill picked up the save in Friday's 8-4 victory over the Mets, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings while allowing one hit. He struck out one.
Impact With typical closer Devin Williams completing a 21-pitch save Thursday, manager Pat Murphy called upon Megill, who secured his first save since July 23. The 30-year-old flamethrower required only 14 pitches -- 13 of which were strikes -- to complete his first save of more than three outs this season. Overall, Megill has been one of the most dependable relievers in the league, pitching to a 2.72 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 50:14 K:BB with 21 saves across 46.1 total innings.
SEPTEMBER 28, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Gives up walk-off grand slam Megill (0-3) took the extra-inning loss Wednesday versus the Cardinals, allowing four runs (three earned) on a hit and two walks over two-thirds of an inning.
Impact Megill got the last out of the ninth inning, but he loaded the bases with one out in the 10th and Nolan Arenado cashed in for a walk-off grand slam. This was Megill's first appearance since July 23 after he missed four weeks with a back injury. The right-hander has a 3.15 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 40:10 K:BB over 34.1 innings this season. He added 20 saves, two blown saves and three holds while functioning as the closer in the first half, but Devin Williams is in that role now, so Megill will likely fill a setup role.
AUGUST 22, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Reinstated from IL The Brewers activated Megill (back) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact Megill's activation appeared imminent when Milwaukee optioned Elvis Peguero to Triple-A Nashville on Monday. Megill -- who's logged 20 saves and a 2.41 ERA -- will move to a setup role now that Devin Williams is healthy.
AUGUST 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Cleared for rehab assignment Megill (back) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on Thursday.
Impact Megill has been sidelined for all of August with a lower-back injury but has been cleared to test things out in game action. The reliever leads the Brewers with 20 saves on the season, but he'll be used in a setup role upon his return with Devin Williams now in the fold.
AUGUST 14, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Ready to face hitters Megill (back) is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session Monday, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports.
Impact According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, Megill will head out on a rehab assignment if all goes well during Monday's throwing session. The right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list July 29 due to a lower-back strain and likely won't need more than one or two tune-up outings in the minors before rejoining the Milwaukee bullpen. Megill leads the Brewers with 20 saves on the season, but he'll likely have to settle for setup work moving forward after closer Devin Williams returned July 28 from a season-long stay on the IL.
AUGUST 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Throwing bullpen Saturday Megill (back) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact Saturday will mark Megill's first time throwing off a mound since a lower-back injury forced him onto the injured list near the end of July. It remains unclear how far away he is from a return to Milwaukee's bullpen, but the return of Devin Williams means that Megill will almost certainly be moved into a setup role once he's activated.
