INJURIES

Notches first save of 2022 May recorded his first save of the season in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning to secure a 3-1 win over the Giants.
Impact In the matinee, Edwin Diaz worked the ninth inning with the score tied 4-4 while Seth Lugo handled the eighth and Adam Ottavino the 10th, leaving closing duties in May's hands for the nightcap. May stumbled out of the gate to begin the season but has now delivered two straight clean appearances, leaving him with a 4.50 ERA and 2:1 K:BB through four innings, but he's still looking for his first win or hold.

Shakes off triceps injury May (triceps) worked around a hit and struck out a batter in a scoreless inning Saturday in the Mets' 3-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Impact May was diagnosed with a minor right triceps strain coming out of his second relief appearance of the season last Monday in Philadelphia, but he was out of commission for only a few days before the Mets made him available out of the bullpen. The right-hander's clean outing Saturday suggests that manager Buck Showalter won't have much hesitation about using him in a setup role moving forward.

Dealing with minor triceps strain May said Tuesday that he doesn't think he'll require a stint on the 10-day injured list after an MRI on his arm revealed a "very, very low-grade triceps strain," Anthony DiComo of...
Impact The Mets will stay away from May for the remaining two games of its series in Philadelphia, but he appears to have steered clear of any major damage after experiencing arm fatigue during his appearance in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Phillies. After getting a couple days of rest and anti-inflammatory treatment to address the injury, May will be re-evaluated on Thursday's off day. Assuming he shows the desired improvement, he should be available for this weekend's home series versus the Diamondbacks.
APRIL 12, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Headed for MRI May is set to get an MRI on Tuesday due to arm fatigue, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Impact It's unsurprising to see the Mets exercise caution with the reliever this early in the season, as there's no reason to push the right-hander less than a week into the 2022 campaign. May will be considered day-to-day until his scans are evaluated by the team medical staff. Joely Rodriguez and Drew Smith could be in line for more high-leverage opportunities if May is forced to miss time.
APRIL 12, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Looks ready for season May walked one and struck out one in a scoreless inning during Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros.
Impact The veteran right-hander has a 5:1 K:BB and 0.00 ERA this spring, albeit in only three appearances, and he appears ready to handle a set-up role for the Mets once again. Over 62.2 innings in 2021, May collected seven wins, four saves and 16 holds with a 31.2 percent strikeout rate.

Collects seventh win May (7-2) picked up the win during the first game of Saturday's doubleheader in a 11-9 victory over the Nationals, walking two and striking out one in a scoreless eighth inning.
Impact The Mets seemed to be cruising to an easy win when they built a 9-3 lead through four innings, but a bullpen meltdown pushed the game to extras. May wasn't at his sharpest, walking Juan Soto intentionally and Josh Bell unintentionally to load the bases with one out, but the right-hander retired Gerardo Parra and Keibert Ruiz to escape the jam, and he became the pitcher of record when New York scored twice in the top of the ninth. May has been scored on only once in his last eight appearances, collecting two wins and two holds during that stretch, and he remains a key high-leverage arm for the Mets.
SEPTEMBER 5, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up sixth win May (6-2) allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts in an inning of work Saturday night, picking up the win in the Mets' 5-3 victory over the Nationals.
Impact May allowed a run to score on a wild pitch Saturday night, but struck out Juan Soto with a runner in scoring position to limit the damage. While this outing does break the 31-year-old's five-appearance scoreless streak, May hasn't lost a decision since June 1.
AUGUST 29, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Gets fourth save May struck out two and did not allow a baserunner to earn the save Wednesday against the Marlins.
Impact May was pushed into the ninth inning role with Edwin Diaz currently on the paternity list. May had no trouble with the shift, as he needed only 16 pitches to grab his fourth save of the season. He now has a 3.21 ERA with 56 strikeouts and nine holds across 42 innings to this point in the campaign.
AUGUST 5, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Notches fourth win May (4-2) picked up the win in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Atlanta, striking out two in a perfect seventh inning.
Impact The right-hander breezed through the bottom of Atlanta's order on 13 pitches and was rewarded when Brandon Drury launched a pinch-hit solo shot in the bottom of the seventh inning. May has been exactly the bullpen stalwart the Mets needed when they signed him this offseason and he's collected a win, save or hold in six straight appearances, lowering his season ERA to 3.23 with a 51:13 K:BB through 39 innings in the process.
JULY 29, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Collects third win May (3-2) picked up the win in a 1-0 victory over Atlanta during the second game of Monday's doubleheader, tossing a perfect fifth inning with no walks or strikeouts.
Impact Aaron Loup was used as an opener in a bullpen game for the Mets, and May was in the right place at the right time when the game's only run scored in the bottom of the fifth inning. The right-hander has been rock-solid since mid-June, posting a 1.65 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB over his last 16.1 innings with one win, two saves and four holds.
JULY 27, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Nabs third save May struck out one while recording the final two outs of the 11th inning in Monday's 15-11 win over the Reds, picking up his third save of the season.
Impact Edwin Diaz blew the save in the ninth and has failed to convert his last three chances, and that's opened the door for May to notch saves in his last two appearances. The former Twin has only been scored upon once in his last 14 games, posting a 1.32 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB in 13.2 innings over that stretch, and while Seth Lugo could also factor into the late-inning mix if the Mets make a change at closer, May figures to get the first shot at replacing Diaz.
JULY 20, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Converts second save May allowed a walk and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in Sunday's 7-6 win over Pittsburgh.
Impact Edwin Diaz yielded a walkoff grand slam in Saturday's contest, and May got the nod for a save chance Sunday. May did well to lock down his second save this season, and he's posted a 3.38 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 46:12 K:BB through 34.2 innings. He's also collected seven holds and two blown saves in 37 appearances. With Diaz shaky around the All-Star break, there may be chances for the likes of May or Seth Lugo to receive more ninth-inning duties from manager Luis Rojas going forward.
JULY 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up sixth hold May struck out one in a perfect seventh inning Tuesday to record his sixth hold of the season in a win over Atlanta.
Impact The return of Seth Lugo, who worked the eighth inning in front of closer Edwin Diaz, has pushed May down a spot in the Mets' bullpen pecking order, but the right-hander remains part of the high-leverage crew. On the season, the former Twin has a 3.45 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 38:7 K:BB through 28.2 innings with two wins and a save in addition to his holds.
JUNE 30, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Blows save Tuesday May (2-2) blew an extra-inning save and was tagged with the loss Tuesday against Arizona after giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk in one-third of an inning.
Impact May entered the game in the bottom of the 10th inning with a one-run lead, but he was woeful on the mound and ultimately let the game slip away when Josh Reddick connected on a walkoff two-run double. May might not have too many save changes going forward based on his performances, as he's gone 1-for-3 in save chances so far.
JUNE 2, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Notches first save May pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing just one hit to secure the save in Mets' win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
Impact May picked up his first save of the 2021 campaign in his first opportunity with Edwin Diaz unavailable. May hasn't allowed any runs since his first appearance this season. Diaz is the normal closer, but May has been more consistent with a 1.46 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP in 12.1 innings. He serves as the setup man, but could be in line for more future saves down the road.
MAY 9, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Earns second hold May pitched a perfect eighth inning while striking out two to secure a hold in Thursday's win over the Cardinals.
Impact May has been stellar so far this season, as he owns a 1.59 ERA in 11.1 innings and the only earned runs against him came in his first appearance. Edwin Diaz has been inconsistent and banged up at times, which could lead to May receiving some save opportunities in the future. The 31-year-old has certainly been the most consistent pitcher in the Mets' bullpen in 2021.
MAY 7, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
PIcks up second win May (2-1) gave up a hit in a scoreless eighth inning Saturday to get credit for the win in a 5-4 victory over the Phillies.
Impact The right-hander kicked off his namesake month in style, as he needed only 12 pitches (eight strikes) to retire the heart of the Philly order, and May was rewarded with the win when Michael Conforto launched a game-winning solo shot in the top of the ninth. May has been as advertised after signing a two-year deal in the offseason to help solidify the Mets' bullpen, and he sports a 2.16 ERA and 13:2 K:BB through his first 8.1 innings with the club.
MAY 2, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Rounding into form May struck out two in a perfect eighth inning during Tuesday's loss to the Red Sox.
Impact Entering the game with New York down 2-1, May fanned Bobby Dalbec and Franchy Cordero to prevent Boston from extending its lead. The right-hander took the loss in a shaky season debut but hasn't given up an earned run since, posting a 9:1 K:BB over his last six innings to lower his ERA to 2.84. Should anything happen to Edwin Diaz, May is the most likely candidate to step into the closer role for the Mets.

Takes loss in Mets debut May (0-1) was saddled with the loss Monday as the Mets fell 5-3 to the Phillies, giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk over only one-third of an inning. He struc...
Impact Entrusted with a 2-0 lead in the eighth inning in his first appearance for the Mets, May fanned Adam Haseley to begin the frame before loading the bases on two singles and a walk. The right-hander then gave way to Aaron Loup, who plunked Bryce Harper to bring home Philly's first run and get things rolling on yet another bullpen collapse that cost Jacob deGrom a win. May was expected to solidify the Mets' setup crew after posting a 3.19 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 12.2 K/9 over the prior three seasons for the Twins, but his tenure with his new club is off to an inauspicious start.

Solid spring so far May has posted a 3.60 ERA and 5:1 K:BB through five Grapefruit League innings so far this spring.
Impact The right-hander has looked good in the exhibition schedule to begin his tenure with the Mets. Dellin Betances and Jeurys Familia have both struggled through the early part of March, and with Seth Lugo (elbow) expected to begin the season on the IL, May figures to be the team's primary setup man in front of closer Edwin Diaz.
