D'Arnaud went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk in Friday's 3-0 win over the Orioles.
Impact
D'Arnaud inked a two-year, $16 million contract extension with Atlanta earlier in the day, and he had a strong showing in Friday's series opener against Baltimore with his second home run since he returned from the injured list Aug. 11. The veteran backstop has appeared in six games since he returned to full health, and he's hit .292 with two homers, two doubles, six RBI and four walks during that time.

Signs two-year extension
D'Arnaud signed a two-year, $16 million extension with Atlanta on Friday.
Impact
The deal keeps the catcher in Cobb county through the end of the 2023 season, with the club also getting an $8 million team option to keep him around for an additional year. D'Arnaud has shown some of the best form of his career during his time with Atlanta, hitting .284/.345/.470 with 12 homers and 49 RBI in 72 games with the team, though almost all of his success came last year. He's produced a 71 wRC+ this year while spending the majority of the season on the injured list after undergoing thumb surgery, but the organization evidently believes he has at least two more years of good performance in his bat despite his recent struggles.

Homers against Nationals
D'Arnaud went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-2 win over the Nationals.
Impact
D'Arnaud recorded Atlanta's first hit of the game when he singled in the third inning, and he put the team on the board with his solo blast in the fifth. The 32-year-old has started two of the last three games since being reinstated from the 60-day IL on Wednesday, and he's gone 3-for-8 with a solo homer, a walk and a strikeout during that time.

Resting Thursday
Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said d'Arnaud will be out of the lineup Thursday against the Reds for rest purposes, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Impact
D'Arnaud was activated from the 60-day injured list Wednesday and started behind the plate in Atlanta's 8-6 win, going 1-for-4 with a walk. Because d'Arnaud caught all 11 innings in the victory and is fresh off an extended absence due to left thumb surgery, Atlanta is just looking to give him some extra maintenance. Stephen Vogt is expected to catch for starting pitcher Kyle Muller in the series finale.

He'll reclaim his job as Atlanta's primary catcher, while Kevan Smith was designated for assignment Wednesday.

Final rehab game postponed
D'Arnaud (thumb) was scheduled to make his finale rehab appearance Tuesday with Triple-A Gwinnett, but the game against the Durham Bulls was postponed due to inclement weather.
Impact
The 32-year-old was expected to rejoin Atlanta and be activated from the 60-day injured list Wednesday after making the final rehab outing Tuesday, and it remains to be seen how the postponement affects those plans. He's already appeared in six rehab games and went 4-for-17 with two walks, an RBI and two runs. Even if his return is delayed slightly, d'Arnaud should still rejoin the big-league roster by the end of the week.

Set to rejoin big club Wednesday
D'Arnaud (thumb) is scheduled to make his final rehab appearance for Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday before rejoining Atlanta ahead of Wednesday's contest against the Reds, Mark Bowma...
Impact
D'Arnaud, who has gone 4-for-17 with a pair of walks through the first six games of his rehab assignment, will catch for rehabbing Atlanta pitcher Ian Anderson (shoulder) and is expected to play the full nine innings behind the dish. Assuming he incurs no setbacks with his surgically repaired left thumb, d'Arnaud will be reinstated from the 60-day injured list a day later. Even if he doesn't start for Atlanta on Wednesday, d'Arnaud should quickly displace Stephen Vogt as the team's No. 1 backstop as he returns from a three-plus-month absence. The addition of d'Arnaud should provide as shot in the arm to an Atlanta offense that will likely be missing Ronald Acuna (knee) and Marcell Ozuna (fingers) for the remainder of the season.
