Makes second start Tawa started at second base and went 0-for-3 in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Orioles.

Impact Tawa made his second start in the three games since being called up from Triple-A Reno in the wake of Ketel Marte's hamstring injury. He's gone hitless over six at-bats since singling in his first MLB plate appearance. Tawa was also instrumental in ending Zac Gallen's night, when he did not receive the ball cleanly on a potential inning-ending double play, which allowed a run to score and led to Ryan Mountcastle's two-run single that ended the starter's night.

Impact Tawa, who was called up from Triple-A Reno on Saturday, took the red-eye flight east from Reno to Washington, D.C. to make his MLB debut. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo explained that Garrett Hampson, who filled in at second base Friday when Marte sustained the injury, will continue on in a utility role and see occasional time at second base. The Diamondbacks are not yet sure of the severity of Marte's injury. That will be determined Marte and the team return to Arizona, where he can undergo further imaging and testing to determine the grade of strain and a treatment plan.

Impact Tawa was called up from Triple-A Reno prior to Saturday's contest, and he'll get a chance to make an impression right away by starting at the keystone in what will be his MLB debut. Tawa's opportunity comes as a result of Ketel Marte (hamstring) landing on the injured list Saturday. In six games at Reno prior to his call-up, Tawa slashed .391/.462/.957 with three home runs, 13 RBI, eight runs and two stolen bases.

Sent down to minors The Diamondbacks optioned Tawa to Triple-A Reno on Monday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Impact Tawa was added to the 40-man roster over the winter after slugging 31 home runs between Double-A Amarillo and Reno in 2024 and he will head back to Reno to begin the 2025 campaign. The 25-year-old can play all over the diamond, and his versatility should give him a chance to make his debut later this season.

Protected from Rule 5 draft The Diamondbacks selected Tawa to the 40-man roster Tuesday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Impact Tawa played in 142 games between Double-A Amarillo and Triple-A Reno in 2024, the latter of which he compiled a .304 average with 10 home runs, 26 RBI, 25 runs scored and three stolen bases over 37 contests. The 25-year-old is just one step away from making his major-league debut and he'll look to impress with Arizona in the spring in order to potentially earn that shot in 2025.
