INJURIES

Steals base in loss Tawa started at third base and went 0-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 3-2 loss to Milwaukee.
Impact Tawa, who was called up Sunday and gave Nolan Arenado a breather at the hot corner, stole his first base in three attempts in the majors this season. He also had a couple of steals (caught once) in the minors. Tawa is not a volume base stealer but has swiped between 10 and 14 bags in each of five previous seasons in professional ball. He gives the Diamondbacks more flexibility off the bench than the player he replaced, LuJames Groover, who was buried at first base behind Pavin Smith and Ildemaro Vargas.

Called up, starting Sunday Arizona recalled Tawa from Triple-A Reno on Sunday.
Impact With Nolan Arenado resting for Sunday's series finale versus Milwaukee, Tawa will enter the starting nine at third base and will bat seventh. Tawa isn't expected to be in line for steady at-bats while he's up with Arizona and will bring most of his value in his ability to play three infield and all three outfield spots. He's logged 76 plate appearances with Arizona this season, slashing .172/.270/.266 with one home run, eight RBI and six runs.

Going back to minors The Diamondbacks will option Tawa to Triple-A Reno prior to Thursday's contest versus the Cardinals, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact His roster spot will be filled by Max Kepler, who is returning from an 80-game PED suspension. Tawa has had multiple stints with the Diamondbacks this season but has played sparingly, putting up a .536 OPS across 76 plate appearances.
JUNE 25 • ROTOWIRE
Moves into starting lineup Tawa started in center field and went 1-for-3 with a double in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals.
Impact Tawa moved into the starting lineup for the first time since being recalled from Triple-A Reno over the weekend. He defended center field, which has become a hole following the injury to Jordan Lawlar (hamstring). Jorge Barrosa started there in the first two games without Lawlar prior to Tawa on Monday.
JUNE 23 • ROTOWIRE
Recalled from Reno The Diamondbacks recalled Tawa from Triple-A Reno on Saturday.
Impact Tawa was sent down to Triple-A at the beginning of June after posting a .519 OPS across 70 plate appearances, but he's slashed .351/.439/.772 with five homers, 16 RBI and 13 runs scored in 15 games at Reno. He'll now rejoin the Diamondbacks as the replacement for the injured Jordan Lawlar (hamstring), though Tawa will likely be limited to a bench role while Jorge Barrosa receives an uptick in playing time.

Optioned to Triple-A The Diamondbacks optioned Tawa to Triple-A Reno on Monday, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reports.
Impact Tawa has been on the Arizona roster all season but hasn't played much, particularly in May with only four starts and 19 plate appearances. He's clearing out to make space on the roster for Pavin Smith (elbow), who is back from the 60-day injured list.

Fills in at left field Tawa started in left field and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 5-4 win over Colorado.
Impact Tawa took over left field in Arizona's first game without Lourdes Gurriel (hamstring), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday. In the wake of the injury, Tawa and Jorge Barrosa were considered as the likely fill-ins, but the Diamondbacks promoted prospect Tommy Troy. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo suggested that Troy will get a good look in left field while Gurriel is out, per Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.

Slugs grand slam Sunday Tawa went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Sunday's 12-7 win over the Padres.
Impact Tawa's first homer of the season was a big one, as his seventh-inning grand slam cut Arizona's deficit to one run before the offense kept humming to complete a come-from-behind victory. It was a much-needed moment for the 27-year-old, who has seen his playing time dwindle and his place on the roster come under scrutiny. In 48 plate appearances, Tawa is slashing .146/.234/.268 with three extra-base hits, six RBI and two runs.

Tawa's slam helps Diamondbacks rally from 5-run deficit to beat Padres 12-7 in Mexico City

Roster spot shaky Tawa started in left field and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and an RBI in Friday's 6-3 win over the Blue Jays.
Impact Tawa's run-scoring double in the eighth inning snapped an 0-for-16 skid and produced just his second RBI in 13 games. A season-opening slump (4-for-35, .114) has cost him playing time and makes him an ideal candidate to be removed from the roster if Lourdes Gurriel (knee) is activated as expected this weekend. Jorge Barrosa can cover left field while Gurriel adjusts to game action in the majors.

Moving into bench role Tawa is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.
Impact Tawa will take a seat for the second time in three games after he closed out last week with five consecutive starts in left field. While the Diamondbacks could still clear room in the lineup for him when the team faces left-handed pitching, Tawa hasn't helped his case for sticking around in an everyday role after slashing .094/.189/.125 slash line across his 38 plate appearances on the season.
APRIL 15 • ROTOWIRE
Nabbing fifth straight start Tawa will start in left field and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Phillies.
Impact Tawa will occupy left field for the fifth game in a row, but Arizona may have room in its everyday outfield for only one of him and Jorge Barrosa once Corbin Carroll -- who is making a second straight start at designated hitter after a recent hip injury -- is cleared to play defense. With a .393 OPS over 31 plate appearances on the season, Tawa hasn't done much yet to justify holding down a regular spot in the outfield in place of Jordan Lawlar (wrist), who will be on the shelf until at least early June.

Starts in left field Tawa went 0-for-2 with a walk in Friday's 2-0 loss to Atlanta.
Impact Tawa started in left field in Arizona's first game without Jordan Lawlar (wrist), who is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Tawa is expected to share those duties with Jorge Barrosa for now, but eventually it will be the landing spot for Lourdes Gurriel (knee) when he's ready to return. Gurriel will initially serve as a DH but should be ready for the field at some point in May.
APRIL 4 • ROTOWIRE
Fills in at LF Tawa entered Thursday's game in the seventh inning to play left field after Jordan Lawlar (wrist) was removed a 17-2 loss to Atlanta.
Impact Lawlar was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning but stayed in the game to run the bases. Tawa entered in the top of the eighth and was hitless in his lone plate appearance. X-rays on Lawlar's wrist came back negative, but he'll undergo a precautionary CT scan Friday. Lawlar's availability for Friday's game is not known at this time. Should he miss any time, Tawa or Jorge Barrosa will likely replace him in the outfield.
APRIL 3 • ROTOWIRE
Moves to left field Tawa started in left field and went 1-for-3 with a double in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Detroit.
Impact Arizona manager Torey Lovullo loaded up the lineup with righties against tough Detroit lefty Tarik Skubal. Alek Thomas was on the bench while Jordan Lawlar (center field) and Tawa were in the outfield. Tawa wears many gloves on the diamond and will toggle between infield and outfield for the Diamondbacks. Wednesday was his second start of the season and first in the outfield. He also served as the DH on Opening Day when Pavin Smith (elbow) was scratched.
APRIL 2 • ROTOWIRE
Late add to starting lineup Tawa started at designated hitter and went 1-for-3 in Thursday's 8-2 loss to the Dodgers.
Impact Tawa was a late addition to the starting lineup when Pavin Smith (elbow) was scratched leading up to first pitch. Smith's injury doesn't sound serious, but it could result in more playing time for Tawa in the short-term.
