Officially recalled for start The Rockies recalled Gordon from Triple-A Albuquerque ahead of his start Saturday against the Padres.

Impact Gordon hasn't found much success through his first three MLB starts, surrendering 15 earned runs in just 15.1 innings while striking out 12 batters and walking two. Nonetheless, he'll rejoin the Rockies' rotation and presumably remain with the big-league club until German Marquez (elbow) returns from the IL. Jake Bird was optioned to Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

Rejoining rotation Saturday Gordon will be called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to start Saturday's game in San Diego.

Impact The Rockies optioned Gordon to Triple-A on Sunday, but because he had served as the club's 27th man in a doubleheader with the Giants a day earlier, he'll be eligible to rejoin the big club in fewer than 15 days. He looks like he'll hold down the No. 5 spot in the Colorado rotation until German Marquez (elbow) is able to return from the injured list. Gordon has made three starts for the Rockies this season, compiling an 8.80 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB in 15.1 innings.

Impact As expected, Gordon was returned to Triple-A after he was called up to the big club to serve as its 27th man in Saturday's doubleheader with the Giants. He started the second game of the twin bill, giving up four earned runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out five over six innings in a 5-0 loss. Gordon has been dealt a loss in each of his first three big-league starts while producing an 8.80 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in those outings.

Impact Gordon got off on the wrong foot, allowing back-to-back hits in each of the first two innings, leading to two early runs coming across for San Francisco. He would then cruise through the next two frames before once again surrendering back-to-back hits to open the fifth. The right-hander has now taken losses in all three of his starts this season, allowing at least four runs in each outing. Gordon's short-lived spot in the big-league rotation will be assumed by German Marquez, who is set to return from the injured list to make his season debut Sunday.

Impact While the 26-year-old's final stat line wasn't very encouraging, Gordon showed plenty of positive signs after yielding four runs - including a three-run home run to Maikel Garcia - in the second inning. Gordon rebounded from the nightmare inning by retiring 11 consecutive batters. He was able to pitch into the seventh inning, but was pulled after 78 pitches following MJ Melendez's solo homer and Garcia's bunt single. Assuming Sunday's outing was enough to earn another start, Gordon would be in line to face the Mets in New York next weekend.

His underwhelming numbers at the Triple-A level in addition to having to pitch in a hitter-friendly environment in Coors Field in his MLB debut makes Gordon an unappealing streaming option for Sunday.
