The Colorado Rockies look to stop their three-game losing streak when they play the Cleveland Guardians

Slotting into rotation Friday
Gordon is slated to start Friday's game against the Guardians at Coors Field.
Impact
Gordon had made each of his first five appearances following the All-Star break as a long reliever, but he'll re-enter the rotation this week as a replacement for Michael Lorenzen, whom the Rockies released Wednesday. In Lorenzen's final start last Saturday against the Giants, Gordon ended up working behind him while covering four innings and 63 pitches, so the 28-year-old righty will be reasonably stretched out as he returns to the rotation. Gordon had previously made five starts for the Rockies, posting a 6.26 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 17:5 K:BB in 23 innings.

Opens second half in bullpen
Gordon struck out two batters and allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk across 5.2 innings of relief in Sunday's 9-6 loss to the Reds.
Impact
After coming off the injured list June 30, Gordon made each of his three appearances as a starter prior to the All-Star break, logging a 6.60 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 15 innings across those outings. However, with Tomoyuki Sugano getting cleared to return from the IL to begin the second half, Gordon has since shifted back to the bullpen. He ended up mopping up Sunday behind started Ryan Feltner, who took the loss after being rocked for eight earned runs across 2.1 innings.

Steady in no-decision
Gordon allowed one run on eight hits and a walk while striking out one over five innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Friday.
Impact
Gordon didn't have a great outing, but he was good enough to limit damage. Just two of the Giants' eight hits off him went for extra bases -- a solo home run by Rafael Devers and a double by Drew Gilbert. Gordon had allowed five homers and 10 runs over his last 10 innings coming into Friday. The right-hander is now at a 6.44 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 47:11 K:BB through 50.1 innings across 12 games (five starts) this season.

Serves up four homers
Gordon allowed five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Sunday.
Impact
Gordon served up four home runs, which accounted for all of the runs on his line. The right-hander has given up 10 runs over 10 innings since returning from a hip inpingement. He's posted an 11:2 K:BB in that span, and both starts have come at Coors Field, which likely explains some of his struggles. Overall, Gordon has a 6.95 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 46:10 K:BB through 45.1 innings over 11 games (four starts). He's tentatively projected to make his next start in a road rematch versus the Giants.

Drawing another start
Gordon is slated to start Sunday's game against the Giants at Coors Field, Kevin Henry of The Denver Gazette reports.
Impact
After being touched up for five runs on nine hits in five innings in his return from the injured list Tuesday against the Marlins, Gordon now maintains a 6.69 ERA and 1.59 WHIP over 40.1 innings across 10 appearances (three starts) with the Rockies. Despite coming off another rough outing, the right-hander will be awarded a second turn through the rotation, but his grip on a starting role is likely tenuous. The Rockies called up one of their top pitching prospects in Gabriel Hughes from Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday, and while he's slated to work out of the bullpen initially, he could get a look as the club's No. 5 starter down the road if Gordon is unable to hold down the job.

Lit up in return
Gordon (0-2) took the loss against Miami on Tuesday, allowing five runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out four batters over five innings.
Impact
Gordon was able to return to action and throw 74 pitches after missing nearly a month due to a hip impingement. However, the right-hander found the sledding very tough, as he was tagged for four extra-base hits, the most damaging of which was a three-run homer by Javier Sanoja. The rough outing pushed Gordon's season ERA up to an ugly 6.69 to go along with a 1.59 WHIP over 89.1 innings. He's clearly struggled to get batters out, but the Rockies don't have many other rotation options, especially with Tomoyuki Sugano currently dealing with a finger injury.

Returns from IL
The Rockies reinstated Gordon (hip) from the injured list ahead of his start Tuesday against the Marlins.
Impact
Gordon has been on the shelf since June 5 due to a hip impingement, but he'll now return to the Rockies' rotation after throwing four shutout innings during his lone rehab outing at Triple-A Albuquerque last Wednesday. He threw just 38 pitches during his minor-league appearance, so he could be subjected to a workload restriction during his first start back in the majors. Sean Sullivan was optioned to Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

Will start Tuesday
Gordon (hip) will start Tuesday's game against the Marlins, Suzie Hunter of GuerillaSports.net reports.
Impact
As expected, Gordon will be activated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game, and the team has since confirmed that he'll slot in as the starter. The right-hander has struggled to find his footing so far this season through nine appearances (two starts), accruing a 6.37 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 35.1 innings.

Likely to enter rotation Tuesday
The Rockies are expected to activate Gordon (hip) from the 15-day injured list to start or pitch in bulk relief Tuesday against the Marlins at Coors Field, Thomas Harding of MLB.co...
Impact
Tomoyuki Sugano is nursing a finger injury that will result in him being pushed back in the pitching schedule a few days, so the Rockies will have an extra spot in the rotation this week that will likely fall to Gordon. The right-hander had posted a 6.37 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 35.1 innings over nine appearances (two starts) with the Rockies before landing on the shelf June 5 due to a right hip impingement. Gordon covered four innings and 38 pitches in his lone rehab outing with Triple-A Albuquerque last week, so he could be in line for a light workload if he does in fact start for the Rockies on Tuesday.

ROTOWIRE
Looks sharp in short rehab outing
Gordon (hip) struck out four batters while allowing one hit and no walks over four scoreless innings in a rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Albuquerque.
Impact
Gordon breezed through the rehab start, his first game action since landing on the 15-day injured list June 5 due to a right hip impingement. He retired 12 of the 13 batters he faced, needing just 38 pitches (30 strikes) to cover four innings. Gordon will likely need to push his pitch count into the 60-to-75 range before potentially re-entering the Colorado rotation, so he'll presumably require one or two more minor-league rehab starts prior to being activated.

Rehab start coming Wednesday
Gordon (hip) is slated to make a rehab start with Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday, MLB.com reports.
Impact
Gordon threw three innings of live batting practice Saturday without issue, so he'll move on to the final step of his recovery from a right hip impingement by heading out on a rehab assignment. Assuming that the right-hander is able to build up to around five innings or 70 pitches in his start Wednesday, Gordon could get the green light to return from the 15-day injured list next week. Once he's activated, Gordon will likely be plugged into the rotation spot that currently belongs to Sean Sullivan, who has posted a 10.29 ERA and 1.86 WHIP through his first two big-league starts.

ROTOWIRE
Set to face hitters
Gordon (hip) will face hitters Saturday and could begin a rehab assignment shortly thereafter, MLB.com reports.
Impact
Gordon is at Coors Field with the team on its current homestand and will be re-evaluated following his throwing session Saturday. He served as a swingman prior to landing on the injured list, so his projected role upon being activated will likely determine the length of his rehab assignment.

Placed on IL
The Rockies placed Gordon on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Tuesday, with a right hip impingement.
Impact
Gordon gave up four earned runs in just three innings during his last start Sunday, and he'll now have to wait until at least mid-June for his next chance to redeem himself. It's unclear who will fill Gordon's place in the rotation, which is scheduled to come up Saturday, but the Rockies will recall Zach Agnos from Triple-A Albuquerque to provide additional bullpen depth during Friday's game against the Brewers.

ROTOWIRE
Allows four runs in first loss
Gordon (0-1) took the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over three-plus innings against San Francisco. He struck out two.
Impact
Gordon made his second start of the season and didn't fare as well as last time out, when he allowed one run across five innings. The right-hander was lifted at 75 pitches (48 strikes) without recording an out in the fourth inning after allowing a double to Bryce Eldridge and hitting Daniel Susac. Both runners came around to score after Brennan Bernardino relieved Gordon. Across nine appearances and 35.1 innings this season, the 28-year-old owns a 6.37 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 35:8 K:BB. If he remains in the rotation, Gordon is lined up to make his next start Saturday against Milwaukee.

Giants take 5-game losing streak into matchup with the Rockies
The San Francisco Giants are looking to end their five-game losing streak with a win over the Colorado Rockies
MAY 31
•
Associated Press
Making another start
Gordon is slated to start Sunday against the Giants at Coors Field.
Impact
Gordon will receive another turn through the Colorado rotation after he was able to hold his own in his first start of the season Monday in a road matchup with the Dodgers. He limited one of the majors' top offenses to one run on six hits and one walk while striking out three over five innings, taking a no-decision in the Rockies' eventual 5-3 loss. The 28-year-old righty owns a 6.78 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 142 career innings in the big leagues, so despite getting a favorable matchup versus a weak Giants lineup in his second start, he'll be tough to trust at hitter-friendly Coors Field.
