Impact Brujan is taking the roster spot vacated by Taylor Walls (oblique) and could see some starts while Walls is out, particularly versus left-handers. He's posted a lowly .486 OPS during his time in the big leagues in 2023.

Impact The injured occurred during Thursday's loss to the Orioles. No timetable for Walls' return has been established, but it's an injury which typically requires more than a minimum stay on the IL. Isaac Paredes should see a little more playing time with Walls out and Vidal Brujan -- who has taken Walls' spot on the roster -- could also get some starts.

Josh Fleming - Starting rehab assignment Fleming (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with the Rays' Florida Complex League affiliate Saturday.
Impact Fleming has been on the shelf since early June with cartilage damage and inflammation in his pitching elbow, but he's finally ready to test things out in game action. Given his relatively lengthy absence, Fleming figures to require a handful of rehab appearances before being an option for the Rays' rotation or bullpen.

Pete Fairbanks - Strikes out side in ninth Fairbanks picked up the save in Friday's 3-0 victory over the Orioles, tossing a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out three and issued one walk.
Impact Fairbanks issued a one-out walk to Adley Rutschman but ultimately struck out the side en route to his 11th save. The right-hander is 6-for-6 in save chances since returning from the injured list June 15, and he boasts an elite 14:4 K:BB during that stretch (9.1 innings).

It was a major bounce-back performance for the right-hander, who was roughed up for five runs over three innings against the Royals in his last start. Impact Mejia told reporters Friday afternoon that he was optimistic about only needing a minimal 10-day IL stint, but it's a fairly significant injury that will require a multi-week shutdown period and then probably a multi-week buildup back into baseball activities.
