Joe Boyle - Demotion to minors now official The Rays optioned Boyle to Triple-A Durham on Friday.
Impact Boyle had yielded 16 runs (15 earned) over his last three starts and did not last longer than four innings in any of those outings. He will look to sharpen things up back at Durham and hope to get another opportunity with the Rays later this season.

Brian Van Belle - Promoted Friday The Rays recalled Van Belle from Triple-A Durham on Friday.
Impact Van Belle will receive his first look in the majors after being acquired from the Reds in the Zack Littell trade last month. The 29-year-old is taking the roster spot of Joe Boyle, who had been working out of the rotation for Tampa Bay and started Thursday versus St. Louis. Van Belle should be a candidate to fill that spot give his 3.17 ERA across 105 innings at Triple-A this year, but the Rays have yet to announce their updated pitching plans.

Joe Boyle - Will be optioned back to minors Rays president of baseball operations Erik Neander said Friday that Boyle will be optioned to Triple-A Durham, Tom Krasniqi of 95.3 WDAE reports.
Impact Boyle surrendered six runs (five earned) on nine hits and three walks over four innings in Thursday's loss to the Cardinals and has been tagged for 16 runs (15 earned) over his last three starts. The right-hander has dominated at Durham this season (1.73 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 96:31 K:BB in 73 innings) and shown flashes at the major-league level, but Boyle is still looking for more consistency.

Impact Lowe has gone 1-for-8 with a walk and five strikeouts over two games since returning from right oblique tightness. He wasn't hitting all that well prior to the injury, batting just .154 (6-for-39) over the 11 games before he stepped out of the lineup for a few days. The outfielder has offered mediocre category coverage this year, posting 13 steals, seven home runs, 29 RBI, 40 runs scored and a .226/.293/.362 slash line over 78 contests.

Impact The one bright spot was that he kept the ball in the yard for just the second time in his last six outings. Boyle has allowed at least six runs three times in that span, and he's also issued three or more walks in three of those starts. For the season, the 26-year-old is at a disappointing 5.40 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 39:21 K:BB through 36.2 innings over 10 appearances (six starts). Boyle is tentatively projected to make his next start at Cleveland.

Impact Fairchild has not resumed baseball activities since landing on the injured list July 23 according to the Rays. Now on the 60-day injured list, the he won't be able to return until the last week of the regular season. If the Rays are out of the playoff race, the 29-year-old's season is likely over. In corresponding moves Thursday, the Rays called-up Carson Williams and placed Ha-Seong Kim (back) on the 10-day injured list.
